panama canal excursion - please help

Hello:

We will be sailing on the Summit in APril on a western caribbean route. I was wondering if anyone has taken any of the excursions on this route with Children. We will be traveling with 8 children ranging in age from 2 - 13. We are looking at the Panama Canal Ferry ride. Has anyone done this with children. Will it be too long? Would it be better to do the kayak ride and one hour observation deck?

We want them to see the canal but not sure if the trip is too long.

I don't know anything about a Panama canal ferry ride. I have taken the cruise through the canal and its a slow, 8-hour trip. Fascinating for history and engineering buffs, but I am not sure that all children would enjoy even what sounds like an abbreviated tour. If your kids are action oriented they may love the Kayak more. You could try contacting the ship's tour office for advice.
