Hi everyone. I have booked a cruise on the Carnival Paradise for August 24, 2003,and now I would like some more infrmation. I was wondering how serious Carnival is about the no smoking thing, ho many formal nights are there, what is the dress code, does this ship have a water slide, how much deck space is there, what is the square footage of a Cat 6A cabin, etc.? Any and all informaton would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

The Paradise is extremely serious about the no smoking policy. It will say in your Docs that you can be fined $250 plus kicked off the ship to find your own way home. I have read about several stories where people have been kicked off. Not sure if the stories were true because I wasn't there but it has been mentioned on some of the cruise boards.

Even the confirmation papers that Carnival sends out mention the no smoking policy at least mine do.

There are 2 formal nights just as on most 7 day cruises. Only Carnival ship I have been on so far is the Victory and Carnival did a great job on that ship. I am booked on the Paradise for back to back Aug 31 and Sept 7.

The dress code was the same as all the other cruise lines I have been on with the exception of when we went to San Juan. We arrived there about 3:30 in the afternoon so they relaxed the dress code because most people were off the ship and in port. Of course you will see people going to the buffet on the Paradise on Formal nights. There were not as many people in the main dining rooms on formal nights on the Victory.

Yes, there is a water slide. The dimensions of rooms can be found on the Carnival website. They are serious about smoking materials. Have personally seen parties leaving the ships at ports.

They allow you to buy cigarettes and non-Cuban cigars at port, they take them at security when you reboard, then give it back to you when you exit the ship. A lady was reboarding at a port ahead of us with a bag of cigars. Security looked at them and informed her she could not bring them aboard because they were Cubans. She tried to explain they were for a relative back home. They said No. She asked what she was supposed to do now. They told her, get back off the ship and either smoke them fast or throw them away. She was one frustrated camper, as she pushed past the rest of us boarding.

Happy cruising!

I wasn't even allowed to bring a souvenir cigarette lighter on board, I had to leave it on the ledge in San Juan. I assumed that things like that would be exempt, but apparently not.

Carnival is deathly serious about the non-smoking policy. We've been three times on Paradise and have seen and heard of people put off for it- not just the smoker, but everyone in the party. You can purchase tobacco products in the cruise ports, but they must be turned over to Security at re-boarding. They will be kept for you and returned at debarkation in Miami.

There are two formal nights, Monday night and Friday night on the typical itinerary. A not insignificant people elect to go formal on formal night, meaning long gowns and tuxedos, although most do not. You would not be uncomfortable either way.

By the way, the photographers are great. Let them take as many pictures as you can stand. They are developed and displayed in a gallery, where you can pick and choose. The ones you don't want, you can literally drop into a trash can. No pressure whatsoever.

There is a waterslide at the main pool, and it gets lots of use, and not just from the kids.

Cat 4 and Cat 6 cabins are all approximately 185 square feet, which may not sound like a lot, but was just fine the two times we took our boys, and even better with just my wife and I. You can see pretty good pictures of both staterooms and public areas at Travelocity's site.

Hope you have a great time - we will be following you in September.
