Nice..........my family and I just booked a November 04 cruise on the Paradise to see the Western Carribean. Now they're telling me not only will we be on a different ship, but it won't be non-smoking?

Royal Carribean, here I come!

I can't even begin to express my disappointment with this change. I love the Paradise and it's what has kept me with Carnival for the last 5 years. On our recent cruise, the CD told us to write on our comment cards that we needed a new iterary for the Paradise or a second smoke-free ship. Now that I look back on that, maybe our CD knew something and was trying to save the "Smoke free" concept. I agree with dmblue333 - RCCL here I come! If I am going to cruise on a regular ship, it's going to be with them. The Paradise is the reason why Carnival has been getting my cruise dollars.

Wow! I am so disappointed!!! We are sailing on the Paradise for the 4th time in January because of the smoke free atmosphere. I am tempted to book the repositioning cruise though!!!! I would think that since California is smoke free (almost) the smoke free atmosphere on the Paradise would be welcomed there.

No jester, you'll be fine. The switch doesn't happen until September 2004. But the Paradise is a beautiful ship, so you would've enjoyed that ship just as much, I am sure!

thank Ripken fan... but I feel compelled to mention , it'll be a long time before the Orioles will make a world series ;) take it from me , I was on the farm system in West Palm Beach , Fla for 2 years before being released and know that the Orioles don't have any prospects coming ... sorry pal.

I am very disappointed in Carnival. I cruised on the Paradise twice and enjoyed the fresh air. I have not cruised on a ship that allows smoking and I may have to think twice about cruising as my favorite vacation. I do not like being forced to walk and breath in second hand smoke and the Paradise was the answer to many non smokers and people who can not be around smoke for health reasons. Can someone let me know how bad can it be on a smoking ship I really love to cruise and would love to keep it as my top vacation.

Hey, jester, don't pick on my birds! When I was growing up, the Orioles were a great team, and everyone in my family (except for the brother who was dropped on his head) is an Orioles fan! That must've been exciting to be part of a farm system - my husband was a pretty good ball player who had dreams of making it as far as you did - but chose to join the Army when he realized pro ball wasn't really in his plans. But we're both huge baseball fans. We Orioles fans are pretty loyal, you know!

I am still so sad about this repositioning - I e-mailed Carnival, though I don't think it'll help, but I feel I need to let them know that I am really disappointed. To Marshall, I don't have any health issues, other than I don't want to inhale second-hand smoke, but I really struggle with the idea of going back on regular cruise ships. What I worry about is the smokers who are not considerate - and I know that many, many smokers are very considerate - but it just seems like some people get out of control because they are on vacation and don't care about others' feelings. On a previous cruise, we were laying in lounge chairs on the deck, and some man stood next to my loungechair, by my head, and held his cigarette at his side, right by my head. When I politely asked him to move his cigarette he snickered and swore at me under his breath. I don't enjoy the casinos as much as I should be able to, and I can't stand the areas where people congregate outside of the non-smoking areas because it's worse than having segregated areas. We're going on the Mariner in September, and I am hoping that the ventilation systems have improved since our last regular (non-Paradise) cruise, so I don't have to encounter so much smoke. I can only hope that Carnival brings back the smoke-free concept on one of the newer ships, but I do just think I can only hope that will happen - I am not counting on it.
