Parking in NYC for the Dawn

Hi,
Sailing in May and planning to drive and park at the pier. I have all the pertinent info from the Port Authority web-page, but was wondering about the timing. How early should we get there to ensure a space? I'd hate to get shut out and have to park in a lot that wasn't secure. Does anyone have any idea? The ship sails at 4 PM

You should get there around 11:30 or 12 and have no problem finding a spot. Drive up to the pier and drop off your luggage, then continue up the ramp to the parking lot. The only problem you may have is it could get crowed dropping off your luggage as people are leaving off the ship waiting for cabs or their car.
They usually start to let you board the ship around noon.

Have a great cruise, you will love the dawn.

I just got off the Dawn today after a week. This was the best cruise I've done and this was my tenth. The ship is beautiful, the crew couldn't have been friendlier and I love freestyle sailing. The restaurants were all great with the exception of Impressions which I didn't like due to it's size. Felt too stuffed in. The cruise director, Colin is the best I've had. He is very competent and a riot.
As for parking, we parked on 10th and 49th street and saved $30. Had no problem as I left my partner across from the terminal on the corner of 48th and 12th walked to pick up the car and then picked her up. It worked really well as we were late picking up the car and they only charged $7 extra per hour.
I envy you having the cruise in front of you. My problem is booking for next year, as I'm stuck with the school calandar and the Dawn is only doing 10-11 day cruises next year and my dates don't fit. If anyone hears of a cruise for April or Feb 2006 fitting the school calandar and sailing out of a home port I can drive to from NY, please post. Thanks.

We just returned from cruising on the Dawn. We got there very early-10:30. We didn't park at the pier but at a garage on 10th Ave called Icon. We saved $40 and when the Dawn arrived late coming back they only charged us $7 for the extra hour.
I would go early as it got very crowded in the waiting area and there weren't enough seats. Just relax, they serve soda and coffee and sandwiches and you have the whole cruise in front of you. The Dawn is gorgeous-best ship I've been on in 10 cruises.
