Passion Beach/Cozumel

We are looking into excursions for our first cruise over New Year's Eve - with Celebrity/Horizon - to the Western Carribbean. We are deciding what to do while in Cozumel. We want to do something relaxing like a beach trip- since we are snorkeling in the Caymans. We are looking into going to Passion Beach- a private Island. Anyone out there ever been? It's about $65 a person so we are wondering if it's worth it.

Thanks!

Teri,

My family and I just returned from Cozumel on the Carnival Pride. We LOVED this port!!!! We did not do the Passion Island tour because it was too pricey especially with no dicount for the kids-What we did do was Chankanaab Marine park on our own. We took a taxi for $10 (about a 5 minute trip from the ship) it cost $10 per person to enter. They have beautiful beaches, great snorkling , inexpensive rental equipment, sea lion and parrot shows, you can even do dolphin and sealion encounters(for an extra fee). The day we were there the beaches were empty especially before noon. The beaches have chairs and shade and they have shower facilities. You should also check out Cozumel insider.com they list all the beaches and activities on the island. It is very easy to get around by Taxi and the prices are all listed so you don't need to worry about getting taken.

In the afternoon we went into town to shop and had a blast-of course if you want to party there is always Carlos and Charlies-they serve tequilla from a squirt gun!!!

Have a great time
Wendy

Does Chankanaab accept credit cards for entry or must you pay with cash? Are children the same entry price?
Thanks

Chris,
I am not sure about the credit card we paid cash- the children pay the same price but we felt it was well worth it. The area is especially great for the kids to snorkle there is a shallow lagoon area if the kids are very young or they can use the stair area if they are a bit older-they also have life guards which I find comforting when the kids are involved I can relax a bit more and enjoy snorkling. To rent equipment for the day I think was $5US and life vests were$3.I had the kids put on vests because it was a bit rough the day we went.

Enjoy!!!!

Last month we tried a 'newly built' beach in Cozumal... Nachi Cocum. A developer combined several of the older beaches located near Chankanaab and turned them into a mini paradise, well worth the $4 entry fee. In Cozumel, the beaches we had been to were great for snorkeling but we never found a real tropical, good swimming beach to enjoy.

Nachi Cocum is gorgeous. The water was shades of blue to purple with no rocks at all. They also have a great open-air restaurant and bar, boats, snorkeling, massage therapy, palapa huts to keep you out of the sun, bar service on the beach, toilets and showers, hammocks and best of all a huge fresh water pool and hot tub.

If you want relaxing times then Passion Island is a good excursion. The only downside is that you have to go there when the tour leaves and return only when the tour is over. Unlike the other beach clubs where you can come and go as you please.

Passion island is good for a lay back type of day.

Chankanaab is good for snorkeling but you could also use Dzul Ha.

Playa sol is an alternative. A lot of activities and party atmosphere and all you can drink for about $20.

Don't forget Carlos n Charlies after all this...

In my opinion. I don't think you should miss either Xcaret or Xel Ha. Both are Mexican National Parks which are absolutely amazing. If you want to snorkel, go to Xel Ha. It is a national outdoor aquarium with lots and lots of large varied species of fish, a free porpois show, a few shops, good restaurants, free sun chairs, palm trees and is amazing in every way. Most lines offer a dual excursion to Tulum (a very notable Mayan ruin which is ON the ocean) and Xel Ha. A lunch is included along with some drinks and a guide. (Don't spend too much time listening to the guide.....go off on your own!)

The other choice is Xcaret which is completely amazing! Take the river tubing excursion (about 5 miles long through caves, waterfalls, etc.) Visit a butterfly hatchery, real (and amazing) bat cave (right over your head!), and good authentic Mexican restaurants at the beach! Really a don't miss!

My wife and I have cruised to Cozumel 7 times over the last 3 years and those excursions are, without doubt, the very best.

In fact, we are cruising aboard Splendor of the Seas January 3-13 and will again be visiting Tulum and Xel Ha.

Have a great cruise.

Regards,

Carl

If I had it to do over I would do Xcaret or Xel Ha. We went to Playa de Sol $28.00 per person, the drinks were terrible, the water trampolines were in need of replacement,
tons of jellyfish, small the sting is just like a small pin prick. The shopping did nothing for me you have to walk through on way to the beach and they don't want to leave you alone. The catamaran cruise and snorkel is always good also, they then go to private
beach next to Playa de Sol, where they have good hamburgers for a nominal fee and
also floats and kayaks to use.. I was there November 22 cruise of Mercury.
