Hi! When I booked my cruise they told us we were fine w just a birth certificate and a drivers license. I still went ahead and applied to renew passports. Unfortunately we don’t know what has happened w two of the passports. They are trying to locate them and expedite but I’m also hearing there is no appointments available anywhere either. This is all despite expediting. So my question is with places such as Dominican and Tortola will they take the birth certificate? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!
You should be fine using a B.C. for a closed loop cruise. As for proof when entering the islands mentioned they did not require anything when we visited them in the past. In fact, I have never been asked for legal proof of citizenship during any of our 25+ cruises. The only possible catch is if for some reason you get stuck in a port (missed ship, sick and moved to a hospital, for examples) then you may have a problem with just a BC assuming that you even have it in your procession, not back in your ship cabin's safe for example.
A note to all: The State Department is really backed-up with requests for passports, again, still. People have been reporting that they have had to cancel cruises or other out-of-country trips due to not receiving their new passports. I would apply months in advance for either a new, or renewed, passport.
