Passports

Is the passport situation the same in Europe as it is in the Caribbean? That is, we showed our passports upon boarding and it was never looked at (or stamped, obviously) for the duration of the cruise. I was a bit disappointed not to have stamps from the three countries we visited.
Since we're going to a few countries we've never visited before on our European cruise, I was wondering (and assuming) it's the same, esp with the EU acting as one big country. I love the little pictures of the planes and the trains on the country stamps on the pages of my passport--would love to have a ship there too! (Does anyone know if there is a regulation against writing in countries and dates on my own? I could even draw a tiny ship, I think!)

Your passports will not be stamped at each port of call, unless you are visiting St. Petersburg.

yea usually any tourist office will stamp your passports, and those stamps are much more unique.

Any tourist office? Like the Tourist Information centers? I never heard of this! Thanks.

Hi,

We have just returned from a Mediteranian cruise on the Millenium and we turned in our passports when boarding the ship. Our passports were retained from the time we boarded in Barcelona until we arrived in Venice. We were given a reciept and had to present it to get our passport back. Each time you go from one port to a port in another country the ship must clear customs and immigration and they have to account for each passenger and crew member before anyone can debark. I have never seen any regulation that prohibits one from writing in the countries visited on the appropriate pages.
