My ATT wireless cell phone worked in Grand Cayman. And the price was not bad. I tried using the payphone there it was a pain. It was purely by accident I found I could use my
cell phone. I'd plugged it in to charge it and when I got back to the ship when I went to unplug it I realized I had could use it. No where in Mexico could I use it. Had to purchase
the local phone card which if I remember it cost $20. It was a pain.

Has anyone checked into prepaid international phone cards? I looked into some but its pretty confusing. Most cards I found on the Web were for calling from the U.S. to overseas, but a few allowed for calls from other countries in to the U.S. Anybody have any experience using them and any recommendations? Our kids are staying with their grandparents during our Panama cruise and we'd like to call them from the various ports.

I have a phone card that I purchased at Sam's Club and have used it in the Bahamas and in St. Thomas. Pay phones in Mexico do not allow you to access a 1-800 number so it will not work there nor in Grand Cayman.

Definitely make sure you do not use the pay phones on the pier in Cozumel. They are collect or credit card only (and not calling cards, credit cards) and the fees are exhorbitant. Last I checked, they had finally put in the first phone in Costa Maya, but that's probably even worse.

Ask the crew where the best pay phones are - they always know :)

I have used AT&T cell phones throughout the Caribbean. It's not cheap but the service is great and it isn't too much more expensive than pay phones. Good Luck and enjoy your trip.

I tried to use an AT&T calling card in Nassau, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman last December. I ended up using my credit card and each call I made cost $50 each. I ended up turning on my Sprint cell phone and put it on roam and called home for $14.00. I used the Sprint cell phone in Cozumel and Grand Cayman. I hope this helps. I plan on using my Sprint phone on my Island Princess cruise this November.

Verizon Will work, my partner works for them, and we recently did the Western. You need to contact Verizon, to ask EXACTALLY how to call from those areas!
