Penthouse Suite photos

Sage, Mark and Roger,

I've mentioned several times that the Penthouse Suites on all the HAL ships (except Noordam, Prinsendam and Zuiderdam) are the same except for decor.

I'm now posting photos of Volendam's PS on the "Community Message Board" for you to see...and, hopefully, enjoy.

I just looked at the pictures; they are stunning. Thank you again. I can tell this will not be my last PH suite. I guess you need to book very early for the ships that just have one. Do you know if the PH on the newest ship is similar?

Try this Sage: http://www.maritimematters.com/zuiderdam6.html
There is a whole ship full of Pictures here. ha ha
You guys are talking so much about the suite dinner, we thought we might do another one on our Alaska trip, but with so much already planned, we said what about lunch. So we called ship services to set this up, and found out they only do dinner between 6 to 9 no more lunch's, oh well what can you do we still have 6 months, maybe they will change there minds. (twist, twist)

Sage - Rotterdam has 4 Penthouse Suites; Amsterdam, 2. The S-Class sisterships and Volendam/Zaandam each have 1. Yes - they can sell out very early.

Zuiderdam has 4 Penthouse Suites, but their layout and decor are quite different from those on the above-mentioned ships. The square footage is somewhat larger, but I'm rather certain much of that is due to a longer balcony. The dining area (note that I didn't say "room") is located between the bedroom and living room, and is much smaller than that of the other ships. The table is smaller (round versus rectangular) and holds fewer people. I know that some orders were given for changes to Zuiderdam's PS's at the time she debuted, but I don't know what the changes were/are.

Trust me - the PS's become VERY habit-forming! ;)

Barry - a number of "usual" things are different on HAL's Alaska cruises.

I can see that the Penthouse living is very habit forming. Roger and I are going to LOVE IT. So pushy, so luxurious so hhmmmm nice.

ShipMaven, thanks for the pictures, very enlightning.
And Barry, what do you mean we can't have LUNCH in the Penthouse :(

You know, all this excitement already had me looking at adding on a back to back cruise from New York to the Cararbiean and back to New York on the Rotterdam on May 23rd, which is also the ship we are taking to Montreal that same day.

However, the Penthouses are all SOLD OUT. The nerve! Don't people know there is a recession? :):):):):)

ShipMaven: It has been a while, but the only thing I remember that was differant was that we had no Suite dinner, only lunch hosted by Captain Jack, and I think it was in the hudson room on the Ryndam.

Mark: you can have lunch from Room Service, but not a catered lunch like a dinner party. That is why I am hoping that HAL will change its mind by the time we are on the Amsterdam in September.

Mark and Roger,

You could always join us on the December 8th sailing. I happen to know that there are two PH suites available. Aren't all these tips and pictures really making you anxious to sail? I also hear that the other ships are being refitted to include a Neptune Lounge, so for me, taking an oath to never sail without one, gives me even more options. I can hardly wait. I was also envious of you thinking back to back. I will have to check out the next sailing after ours. Thank you everyone for all the incredible information.

Sage,

YUP, we are looking forward to cruising, after seeing all these pictures.
What are we going to do, to top this one?

Barry - the venue for the Officers' Suite dinner/luncheon varies by ship and by length of cruise. On Volendam in Alaska, it's held the last day (in the Inside Passage) up in the Crow's Nest - a buffet lunch where you bring your plates to the cocktail tables where you're seated. The choices are all delicacies. Usually not too many senior officers around. I've also attended those functions (usually dinner) in the Queen's and/or King's Room and the Henry Hudson/Half Moon Rooms. On longer cruises, it's dinner one week and lunch the next.

On Alaska cruises, main dining is at 5:45pm and late, 8:15pm. On the Inside Passage itineraries, two port nights are late departures (Juneau and Skagway), so the onboard schedule is pretty casual.

Mark - it's pretty difficult to top HAL's Penthouse Suites! ;)

I guess we have been lucky, the Alaska Inside was the only time, we have not, had Dinner with the Captain. All of them have been somewhere else then in the main dining room, and yes on longer cruises there is more, I belive we had two lunch's and one dinner on our 10 day Seafarer. Never been to a Suite buffet though, I guess it should work if the food is good, and there is enough room to turn around in like the Crows Nest.
We are going to be on the Amsterdam in September, there is four ports of call and Glacier Bay so this leave little time for formal dinners, has anyone done the Alaska Explorer Cruise, and know how many, and when the formal nights are? I can guess on the first one on night two, but if they have a 2nd one, it is had to see when they might fit it in.
Yes, ShipMaven is right, it is really hard to beat out the HAL PH.

Thanks for picking up my typo - you're, of course, correct that there are "only" 2!!
