Just curious, what are the rates on board to make calls back to the States? Should I purchase a phone card before hand? Also, has anyone brought their cell phones along with them and if so were you able to use them? I dont mind paying a few extra cents for the roaming charges. Any input would be appreciated. thank you all!!!

As I recall, $7.00 a minute. Out of New Orleans your cell phone can roam off a tower somewhere on the oil platforms. Was able to make a call about 8:00pm on the night before we docked. In Cozumel you can find a phone store on the main shopping drag and call the U.S. for $.95 a minute. In Jamaica, we bought a phone card from a store, our driver put it on his cell phone, and for $5.00 both couples called home and checked on the children.

Happy sailing.

You cannot use a phone card to pay for a phone call from your cabin. Also cell phones will not work at sea as there is no antenna at sea. Some cell phones work in some ports of call. It depends on your service and plan and if there is service on the island. I have Sprint and can call for no charge from San Juan and St Thomas and any other US virgin island, I cannot use my phone at all in Nassau, it just won't work. You can purchase international phone cards to use while on the islands, but make sure it is for international calls. Sorry I don't remember how much it costs to call from your cabin. On my last cruise it was $6.95 per minute but it was not on Carnival. You can also send E-mails from the ship, they have computers set up for that and you pay by the min.

Really!
It'll tell you in your documents.
Call your cell provider for their policies, procedures, costs and coverage-areas. They vary widely.
