Phone cards do not work on the ship as they do on the land. You will still be charged the 9 bucks or so a minute. Cell phones do not work out at sea but some do work on the islands. You can always use email accounts.
When you get your documents they will contain a page with 3 tear out notifications that you may pass out people who may need to contact you. They have the number which you can be reached at onboard. No one should call you except in an extreme emergency as the calls cost $9.50 a minute.
