Hello everyone

My girlfriend and I are sailing this ship on December 7. We're both first time cruisers and have no idea what to expect from a cruise. I am reading nothing but great reviews on this message board though!

My question we have a digital camera with a fair amount of memory. However we plan on taking many, many pics while on our vacation, which also includes a week in Florida before the cruise. I am wondering if this ship has a place to develop pictures (from our waterproof camera) as well as a service to dump digital pics to CD rom so we can clear the card and keep snapping away. Once home we can dispose of any pics we don't want but we want to have the ability to capture as many memories as possible. Don't really want to miss any opportunities as this is the first really big vacation for both of us!

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I also take my digital camera. Mine uses Compactflash, Microdrive and smartmedia. I use the Compactflash more than anything else. I have a 1 gigabyte card and a couple 128mg ones as well.

I find with the 1 gigbyte I don't need to dump anything and remember with the digital...you can delete on the spot those you don't want. If you're taking pics at the highest resolution you can get about 400 of them on the card and if you drop the resolution to lower...you can get almost a thousand pics.

I take pictures for reproduction so I need the highest resolution I can get so I also take my laptop with me and drop them down and burn them myself.

Also, it might me possible, but I'm not sure but maybe someone else will know but you may be able to send the digital photos home through the internet cafe.

My recommendation....get more memory cards.

And one more thing....you can take 300 pictures, but when you really go through them at the end of the day...you'll find that only a few of them are good enough to keep forever. How many shots do you need of the bow of the ship or someone waving from the gangway?

That's the beauty of digital....you can see what you have before you spend the time and money to get them developed.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply!

I agree with the dumping of pictures if you don't like them. My Camera has compact flash 128M. On the highest resolution (which I prefer) we get around 128 shots. Of course drop it and we can get up to 400 shots on one card. I guess as I really think about it I probably won't need to dump the pictures, and I'm not thinking of having every single shot reproduced. I'm thinking that I will take all the shots, not delete anything, and once home pick and choose those I want prints made of. Not having a laptop limits my dumping options while away. Hence my original questions.

I'm sure 128 shots will be more than enough, but with all the options available with our camera, including panoramic shots and video it will eat up the memory very quickly.

I have found though that since we got the camera we are taking a lot more pictures than before. We used to only use 2 - 3 rolls of film a year. Now we have taken probable more than 2000 pictures in six months.

If the option is there, Great! If it's not than we will work around it. Anyway the idea is for us to just relax and have fun. Which we will. The most important pictures will of course help us to remember every single aspect of our vacation.

Thanks again for your reply.

My darling wife and I just returned from a 14-day cruise. We took over 400 pics and a few mpegs as well. It is true that not all of the pics are keepers, but how do you know which ones until you get them the computer screen? I suggest getting more memory cards. They can be bought fairly inexpensively, if you look around. The memories they provide lasts long after the cards are paid for. I really dislike having to ration my picture taking. I like to shoot away and see what we got when we get home. Enjoy your cruise, whatever you decide to do photo wise.
