PizzaBoy update :)

Thank you all for the good wishes and prayers for PizzaBoy. Once again, @ddicts were heard. The surgery went very well -- no problems with the procedure or the anesthesia. He's pretty much back to himself. And the best news is that we are home! They had a bed on hold "just in case," and then determined it wasn't needed. We just have to keep an eye on him as he may have some issues with balance today until the drugs completely exit his system.

Thank you all again.

I just received a phone call from Lisa from the ER. She and Neil had to take PizzaBoy back to the hospital for pain management. The pain medication they sent him home with was not strong enough to control the post-op pain once the original medications wore off. PizzaBoy was doing fine at first - alert, playing on his computer, eating well. But the pain began at bedtime. Lisa anticipates they may be at the hospital overnight.

Let's keep them in our thoughts and prayers, please. Thank you.

Hopefully, this is just a minor bump in the road and PizzaBoy will be back to full throttle shortly.

Pain management can be a huge issue, I hope they work this out soon, and he is back on his video gaming quickly.

When my sister had her knee surgery a few weeks ago they told her to expect to be in hospital for a week, because like me, she can not tolerate pain meds well (luckily I have a high pain threshold, or Calgon would be dead by now). So, for a week she had to have her pain meds IV. She still threw up for a week, but at least they were in her system.

I just spoke with Lisa and Neil - PizzaBoy continues in a lot of pain, but the doctors have prescribed a stronger pain med. They've had little sleep, so are exhausted.

Mary Ann, thank you for both sets of updates, as well as being there for a couple of late-night phone calls.

PB just had his third dose of oxycodone -- the first was in the hospital at about 1:00 am EST, the second when we were able to fill the prescription at 8:00. He responds to it pretty quickly, about 30 minutes, although it wears off around an hour before the next dose. We are keeping him off his feet, and have a wheelchair from the hospital to help him get around the house. Thankfully, he is now sitting quietly watching TV. Neil just took a quick nap, and once PB falls asleep, I will also. Our major peeve was that this was not prescribed from the beginning. Still, things could be a lot worse. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers.

We also thank everybody who works in ERs across the world. Every medical professional we met last night was very patient, caring, and took the time to answer all of our questions and explain everything to us. I know it's not an easy job, not knowing what to expect.

=hug to the three of you. I hope PizzaBoy's pain can be controlled better with the stronger med. Yes, I wonder who didn't realize the poor boy would need strong pain control after his procedure when the initial meds wore off. :(

The good news is the surgery was successful and he didn't have a problem with the anesthesia. Sending prayers the pain meds do their job and the healing and recovery go smoothly. Thanks for the update, Mary Ann.

Thanks again, everyone. He's been off the heavy duty pain medications for two days now, as he was starting to feel a lot better. He's walking, but we did get him his own PizzaBoy-sized wheelchair for this week and next. He goes back to school next week, so we figured this would make it easier to get around. We're still giving him the Tylenol with codeine before bedtime, as that is the only time he complains. So, it's been a slower-than-expected recovery, but he's well on his way.

Thank you all for your prayers and kind words of encouragement.
