You'll have a hard time finding bad food anywhere. But here are a couple of recommendations (taken from their cards or receipts in our scrapbooks, Oct 03):
1. Mascaron Osteria, Calle Longa Santa Maria Formosa 5255, closed on Sunday. phone: 041-5225995 (a great neighborhood place, and recommended independently by my Italian bro-in-law) Just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, a right turn looking out from the church, walk about a block or two, it's on the right.
2. Ristorante "da Bruno", Castello 5731, tel: 041-5221480,

3. Antica Trattoria Bandierette, Castello 6671, 30122 Venezia, Tel: 041-5220619
We ate here twice during our week in Venice. The waiters don't speak English but that's half the fun, no? It's a great local place, great food...
My advice: don't walk your legs off trying to find a "recommended" place. It will only cause family strife, as some places in ANY city are hard to find (I could tell stories, and just magnify it when you get to Venice!) These are great places, in various neighborhoods, but I promise you'll eat well at any neighborhood restaurant that looks appealing to you! I'm jealous! Have a great time!
