Platinum Capt. Circle?

Can anyone tell me about the advantages to being a Platinum member when you cruise? I know about the upgraded insurance, but what about when you actually go on the cruise? Is there really a separate lounge for boarding and disembarking? We are going on the Sapphire June 13 and this will be our first cruise at the Platinum level.

I heard that have a 'special' lounge for disembarking. Nothing else you didn't mention except free internet access.

Check the Princess website--it lists the perks for each category, like upgrades in the insurance. Last year, there was an advantage to having the lounge for disembarking because they were way behind on getting the groups off the ship at the times they had been told to line up for disembarking. As a result, people were standing in long lines all over the public areas, camping out in any available chair, and even sitting in groups on the floor. One of the lounges (I think it was the Explorer lounge) was set aside for Platinum members to sit at tables and chairs in relative comfort, and coffee was served. However, if things had been running smoothly and on time, and people were not camped out all over the place, we probably would not have used it. Regarding the embarkation area, since we got there early and things went so smoothly, there did not seem to be any real need to use the lounge they set up at the terminal. I have heard that on other cruises where people line up in the same area, Platinum passengers are pulled out of line by staff and ushered to the front before they open the floodgates.

E, did you by chance see the Platinum check in booth (or counter)? I am curious if this took the place of the suite/mini-suite check in booth. On our last few cruises with Princess & Celebrity, we've had the option of using 'Captains Club or Suite' check in counters and never have. The room number (or category) counter was always closer, thus quicker to get to! lol

Platinum membership is worth every penny spent on the cruises that it takes to achieve it. The best thing is that you get free internet. As a previous post said...you get a seperate check in line. also, one unwritten rule that was nice...was the last cruise i went on there were about 200 people waiting in a room to board the ship...when they started boarding they allowed all of the platinum members to board first...we were the first people on the ship...it was wonderful. also, you get a free cruise atlas that tells about all the different cruises offered, also, at check out you get a seperate lounge to wait in that serves juice and coffee and danishes, last, when ou purchase the cheaper insurance you are upgraded to the expensive at no cost. hope this helps...happy cruising!
