Platinum Uprades: What to expect?

As some of you may have read in my previous post, I was surprisingly made a platinum Captain's Circle member recently. I'm currently in a BA cabin (C332). My reservation was only paid for in full yesterday, but I'm already curious what kind of upgrade I might expect, and when it might happen. I assume princess has tons of loyal guests, so platinum members aren't as unusual as, say, an Executive Platinum American Airlines passenger is. But what do you experts think my chances are? I'm already assuming I'll be put in a mini-suite (seeing as it's only one category up from the one I paid for), but how wacky is it to think that I may get moved to a Vista or PH or (dare I say) a GS? The ship (5 weeks til sailing) is pretty wide open in those categories. I suppose it could fill up -- but aren't those last minute bookings the people who are looking for bargain-basement prices? I don't know if they'll be snagging the cabins that cost 2 grand pp. Anyway -- thanks for all your replies to my previous posts.

Happy cruising!

Hi,
I am wondering with platinum status, do you get free internet access in your atateroom if you bring your own computer, or is it free in the internet cafe?

The Grand (from what I understand) has a 'business center' with eight or so computers (Not a mega-cyber-cafe like the Star or others). Internet access there is free -- and you can also get a laptop from the pursers desk 24/7 (free of charge for Platinum members) that you can use in the atrium (I think - please someone correct me if that's wrong). But I don't believe 'in-room' access is available. Might be worth a call to Princess to find out.

There is no in-cabin internet access available on any Princess ship.

As for upgrades, while being Captains Circle does increase your chances, you can never, ever count on an upgrade. Don't get your hopes up too much just to be disappointed if it doesn't come through and put a pall over your vacation. Odds are probably about even for a mini, but very low for anything else.

I totally agree with BurBunny. Those upgrades do come occasionally but not like they used to. We have been platinum members since the beginning and have yet to receive an upgrade, so I guess it all just boils down to the luck of the draw and how full the ship is.
I have to tell you that I was surprised how few platinum members were on or sailing last month though. I think we had more first time cruisers on the ship then anything else.
And Princess definintely does NOT have in cabin internet hook ups. But the free internet for platinum members is a plus.
Best of luck and hope the upgrade fairy pays you a visit for your cruise. ;)

Thanks Toto. Someone sent me a private email saying that mainly people who have guaranteed reservations get upgrades. I currently have a BA on Caribe -- so I don't want to trade it in for a guarantee (I wouldn't want to end up on the Lido deck with the smaller balconies). I have said I'd 'accept' an upgrade, but I don't know if that ever works really.

StepG, don't give up hope, there is always a slim chance even with an assigned cabin. The best way to go about it is just not to count on it, if it happens, then think what a great surprise you will have.
Best of Luck that the upgrade pays you a visit real soon!
