Please tell me about the Infinity

I am about to book a transcanal cruise on the Infinity. Any information you could give me about the ship would be appreciated. Things like what area you really liked or even disliked. Was the ship easy to find your way around? Was there a particular lounge or area that stands out in your mind.

I have cruised on Celebrity once before on the Mercury and lets say it was nowhere near the top of my favorite cruises. I only feel it is fare to try Celebrity again and the people I will be cruising with are the main reason I am going to be booking this cruise.

When I am on this cruise it will be my third full transit of the canal so the ship is really what I am interested in hearing about. I do feel Celebrity does have very good service but I won't agree that Celebrity food is the best like many say.

Any information about the ship will be appreciated.

Wonderful ship, excellent service and food. Weird art, friendly crew. Nice extra touches (cold towels at lighterage pier, sorbet at the pool in the afternoons, trays carried to your table at the buffet, etc.) that are a Celebrity hallmark. We are about to go on cruise #4 aboard the Infinity, so at least WE like it! It is laid out very nicely, never crowded and well staffed. Don't know specifically what you are looking for, but as far as food, that is so subjective and individual, I'd be reluctant to make any universal statements. I will say, of the cruiselines we have been on (Carnival, NCL, Princess, Siosa, RCI and Celebrity), we like the Celebrity food, service and ambiance best. Your mileage may vary.

PEB, we just came off the Infinity in June. Our first cruise was on the Monarch, and I got lost for all 4 days. I did not get lost at all on the Infinity. We loved every minute of it.

Favorite spots? Well, we had a corner aft balcony, so I would have to say that was our perfect spot! But there are a few things you should know about the Infinity

The art isn't for everyone, but it is thought-provoking. We actually enjoyed it! Don't try to figure it out, just be entertained by it!

The buffet is usually open on both sides of the ship, but at the aft end of the buffet is a small area between both sides that has things like wonderful sandwiches, sushi, etc, depending on the day.

The library is actually very nice. We tried to go to Notes, but they were closed the whole cruise, and I understand they are now something else???

The elevators are great, several different banks. The ones that never seemed very busy were the ones in the middle of the ship, on the port side, with the glass sides so you can see outside as you ascend/descend.

Next to the T-Pool is a great little food station that serves spa food. It's tinier portions, but very very good and tasty and healthy. I went there as often as I could! It was actually my favorite food station on the ship.
Right next to it you can get what they call a "chili dog." No chili on the dog, but some kind of spicy syrup stuff... didn't make sense to me.

The emporium shopping area wasn't impressive. Larger than the one on the Monarch, but still...

The Martini bar was very nice, but we were mostly impressed by the chocolate artist. Incredible stuff there! Fountains, wells, angels, sculptures you can't believe!

If you are lucky enough to get DOODS in the dining room, you are lucky indeed!!!

Enjoy your trip.

If you didn't care for Mercury, you probably won't care for Infinity. Even though Infinity is larger, the abiance of all Celebrity ships is similar throughout the fleet. What ship/line is your favorite? I guess it all depends on what you're looking for in a cruise. Each line has different characteristics that may or may not appeal to you, depending on your perspective.

I would echo the comment that the Celebrity Millenium class ships (Millenium, Infinity, Summit, and Constellation) are a larger evolution of the Mercury and have a similar layout. The 4 ships are almost indentical physically and have slightly different interior decor.

Personallly, the dear departed SS Norway was my perfect ship as I am a classic liner enthusiast. I have also sailed other NCL ships and the Carnival Destiny, but after cruising on Infinity I decided that the Celebrity Millenium class ships will be the first options I consider for future cruises because I so much liked the onboard ambience. I found the decor subtle and stylish, even relaxing (compared to the brassy flash of Carnival!), passengers behaved themselves, and the dining options were so varied.

As a liner enthusiast, the SS United States restaurant (alternative premium dining option) was my favorite place on the ship. We also enjoyed the bar in the Rendez Vous lounge, because its vibrant, primary colored upholstery and dark wood veneer was a contemporary interpretaton of a classic cruise ship lounge. Eating breakfast at the wooden tables on the open air deck, aft of the buffet restaurant, most mornings was also a favorite experience.

We found the Infinity to have a great pax/space ratio. Pool deck and above very usuable. Public rooms comfortable and the staff all friendly and working for you.
Food is fine and the service great.
Fewer lines that the smaller ships of X and HAL that we have cruised on.
She handles rough sea's not too badly for a hotel at sea.
The Panama Cruise is a great experience (Horizon) and we did it on the Infinity.
FYI: This is a ship that has had cancellation problems becasue of it's pod system But now you are guaranteeed a "Free" cruise if effected..
I recommend it.
See my reviews.

We sailed on the Infinity two weeks ago. If you want to see pictures of the ship as well as menus from the dining rooms go to our review at www.thepreismans.com and click on Pacific NW. There are also pictures of the ports of Vancouver, Nanaimo, Victoria and San Francisco.

Enjoy,
Carol

PEB, Roy & I were on the Infinity 3 years ago. We both really liked it. The ship felt very spacious - we never felt like we were on a huge ship. Our dining room table was tucked off to the side and we had so much fun talking to our tablemates that we closed down the dining room every night! We missed most of the shows - no loss. We enjoyed the art - Roy welds abstract metal sculptures in his spare time so we appreciate the abstract art. Celebrity food is a bit over rated in my opinion, but I liked the food choices in the buffet and the dining room had a good selection. Celebrity desserts are the best! The T-pool and adjoining health food bar was my favorite spot. I wish I had discovered that little food bar earlier in the cruise. You select your food and they bring it out to your table.

All your replies are very helpful to me. They are appreciated. The reviews and pictures are of a lot of help also.

richsea I don't expect that Celebrity will become my favorite cruise line, however even with the negatives I found on Mercury I still had a good time so I only think it fare to give Celebrity another chance. As I mentioned in my original post it is the people I will be cruising with this time that will make the cruise worth wile.

tg_lindo I am also a person who prefers the old ocean liners. I also loved cruising on the Norway and the Norway provided some of my fondest memories of cruising.

Again thank you all for your replies. They do help me quite a bit and give me things to look at and think about before I finally board the Infinity, which is still a long ways off LOL.
