1. what is there to do in port canaveral besides the KSC?
2. i know someone said that avis has free shuttle from rental office to the ports, how about the other rental cars?
3. how are the hotel accomodations there?
4. what is the speed of the embarkation and debarkation from th ship?

Disney is about 1 hour away. We also did an airboat ride. I dont remember the company, but I googled before we got there.

Most of them offer a free shuttle. Ask when you book to make sure.

how are the hotel accomodations there? Very nice. A large group of us from this board stayed at the Raddison and I am safely speaking for all them that we would all stay there again.

what is the speed of the embarkation and debarkation from th ship? That generally depends on if "ship happens" or not. It can be smooth, to a few hours late coming or going. I would not get to the pier much before 11:00 and would not book an earlier flight than 1:00 out of MCO.

you could go to the beach...to nice ones are teh cocoa beach pier (they have nice restarunts and also Jetty PArk which is just around the corner from the port. Ron jons is a great place to go see once it is pretty historical in the surfiing community...
Island Boat lines offers a great tour around teh islands of merritt island....
there is a small mall in merritt island that you could go to has amovie theater etc....
lots of places to stay there is teh mentioned radisoon al;so holiday nn express, nest western, Inn at cocoa beach, Ron Jons resort, Ocean side inn etc.....
There isa nice but small zoo in melbourne about 20 minutes away
and Cocoa Village is a nice little old fashion shopping area along teh river a few miles away..
hope this helps....

Well as for the Embarkation and Debarkation, remember that there is a lot more security now than 10 years ago. So you will be going through your fair share of metal detectors and having your bags scanned. Make sure you have all of the necessary documents and passports/birth certificates before you get in line. Fill our ahead of time all the little forms they would need.

In Miami we went on the Navigator of the Seas, a huge ship (135 tons) and even with the express online check in it took us 1-1/2 hours to get through that line. So it all depends on how big the ship is and how many customs/RC staff are on hand. So don’t get discouraged if your in line for over an hour. Read a book, peruse the shore excursions.

Now Disney cruises out of Port Canaveral are real efficient. We went on one and we basically walked right on and right of off the ship. Literally no waiting.
