Usually, unless there is a reason for heightened security, the local enforcement will take a quick look at your photo id and your ship boarding pass. The time it take is in direct relation to the number of people deciding to return to the ship at the same time you do, just don't decide to board at the same time as returning tours and you will find that the lines move fairly fast. At this point you will be inside the ships secure area and may have to show your id once again to a ships personnel at the bottom of the gangway. Once onboard you will only need to drop your boarding card in the scanner slot and your photo comes up immediately on the security screen and you are logged back onto the ship, again a fairly fast process, usually only slowed down by a large number of packages have to go through the x-ray scanners
