Porthole Awards

I noticed in this months Porthole magazine that Carnival won the "Best Main Dining Room Cuisine" award. I was surprised by that as one of the biggest things I hear about Carnival is that the food isn't as good as it is on some other lines. What do you guys who have cruised on other lines think about this? Has Carnival improved their selections or is this bogus?

Just Curious. I for one have never been disapointed with what I have gotten on a Carnival ship but then again I have only cruised with Carnival.

A much debated topic indeed.

I have never been disappointed with any food on any ship I have sailed on. Having said that I am pretty easy to please. In my opinion when the chefs are cooking for three to four thousand people 3 times a day (remember, the crew has to eat too) there's just so much that can be done. I find the food pretty much the same between the ships. Always good and always better than whatever I would be having if I were at home. The specialty restaurants are always a little better.

My best meal on a ship was Chops Grille on Navigator of the Seas.

I cannot judge by cruise line but by cruise ship. We had great food on RCCL Grandeur of the Seea but did not like the food on RCCL Mariner of the Sea. The same for Carnival. The Miracle, Triumph food was great but the legend I didn't care for. The Golden Princess was much better than the Grand Princess. So I think it all depends on your own personal taste and what ship you sail. No matter you never go hungry on a cruise.

I think the food on the Carnival ships is pretty good. I think it is a little better than the food on RCI and much better than the free food on NCL.

Well I have no argument that the food is excellent on Carnival I have always enjoyed it. My only criticism of it is that it isn't always hot. I was just surprised to see them win an award for best food since they aren't known for having the best food in the cruise industry. I have a friend that wants to cruise on another line based on the opinion that he has heard that the food is better with other cruise lines, however from what the Porthole article is stating that may no longer be the case.
