POSITANO

My wife and I will be on a Princess cruise stopping in Naples in early Dec. She'd like to spend a few hours in Positano.
Any suggestions about getting there (and back to the ship) would be appreciated.
Could I hire a taxi to take us around for a few hours? Would it be reliable? Some friends have warned that Naples can be dicey and I should stick with Princess tours. Thanks

I have not been in Naples.. nor cruised the Med.. been IN Italy a long time ago.. However my DD Cynthia was in Naples last year, and the year before..she did 2 land tours of Europe.. and she was not feeling too safe, nor thrilled about what she saw..and I quote.."looked like a ghetto Momma.. and the dark corners, and streets with narrow alleys are a NONO.., and their are a huge bunch of pickpockets...:(..Savannah, and I had to be extra ,extra careful!!, it was THE only city we felt unsafe in....... ".. =shrug.. not much help but figured I'd add from a 24 year olds perspective.. Happy research...:)..Joanne

You should be able to pick up a taxi or tour guide right at the pier. I can't help you with the cost.

Naples itself can be as described, but I have never heard anyone complain about Positano or any of the beautiful towns along the Amalfi coast as causing fear. Just remember that pickpockets in Europe are skillful and plentiful....they are EVERYWHERE and you do need to be alert and plan for the safely of your belongings before you go.

The only other caution is that Italy, Naples in particular can pull a transit/driver's strike out of the blue. Even some ships tours get canceled for this reason.
