Post Cruise valet service

I have contacted RCI about the post cruise valet service advertised a few months ago. I have received varying answers on this subject. Royal Caribbean has advertised this service which picks up you luggage as usual the evening before debarkation. But with the valet service you don't see your luggage again until you get back to your home airport. The cost is uncertain however as I have been told the cost was anywhere from $20 to $50 per person. We will be disembarking in San Juan and this is one of the ports advertised to offer this service.
If anyone has used this service or knows anything about it I would you let me know.
Thanks

We used this service 3 weeks ago in Miami. The charge was $10 pp. Airline luggage tags are delivered to your room prior to disembarking. We also received our flight boarding passes as well. We did have to claim our luggage in the ship terminal due to customs regulations. We then delivered it a short distance away to the airline desk. I would highly recommend it. No need to drag your luggage to the airport or check in at the airport.

Hope we hear from others who have tried this! We'll be in San Juan in March and would love to use something like this if it's working well and is within a reasonable cost.

I'd like to try it too. It'd be nice not to have to wait in line while your luggage is scanned at the airport. :thumb

Anyone else done this?

=docdanceIs this a sevice that's offered while onboard or do you have to arrange it ahead of time? Where would one look to arrange this service (ie..where onboard or does one contact travel agent, etc)? This sounds like a very convenient service. Any additional info would be much appreciated.

It's offered while onboard. You'll get a notice in your cabin a few days prior to disembarkation & then turn it into the Purser's Desk. I thought it was pricey, so we didn't use it.

It's $20 per bag with a maximum of 2 bags per person. (That's $160 for our family of 4-I think I can schlep our bags around for that much! =eek )

These are the cities where they offer this service:

Ft. Lauderdale
Los Angeles
Miami
Port Canaveral
San Juan
Seattle
Vancouver

There are two different systems depending on the port.

For Port Everglades, Miami and San Juan, PR:
Luggage will get laid out with the rest of the luggage that is coming off the ship. You will claim their luggage and present yourself to Customs. Once cleared, you will proceed to a location outside Customs Hall and drop off you luggage with one of our staff members. Your luggage will then go directly to an in-bond truck to be transported to the airport.

For San Diego, Seattle, Vancouver, Los Angeles and Port Canaveral:
Your luggage will not be laid out with the rest of the luggage coming off the ship. It will go directly into an in-bound truck to be transported to the airport. You will present yourself to Customs and if required, will be reunited with your luggage for inspection.

There are places this would be worth it, like Vancouver, but otherwise, we had no problem at all taking our luggage on our own in the past.

Do you know if the service can be used with any airline in San Juan? I will be there in May and would like to avoid lugging my suitcase thru a crowded airport if possible. I haven't made my air reservations yet but am looking at Spirit or American airlines........

I know for sure it works with American and Delta. I'm 90% sure it doesn't work with Spirit.

We were on an Alaskan cruise in June with 10 couples. Four of us could not use the service because our flight home out of Seattle was just after midnight and you must be flying the same day to use this service. Three of the couples with us fly out on another airlines an hour earlier and used the service. They had no problems and were very pleased with the service.

heres some info I found.......

RCL
Details on Luggage valet (Check-in Service)

At this time is offered for guests flying with AA, DL ,UA, America West, AS, AC, NW and CO. Your flight needs to be the same day of ship’s arrival. Your final destination should be within the US. No international destinations are eligible at this time.

Can I purchase this service before the cruise?
Not at this time. This service can only be purchased onboard the ship. You will receive an invitation letter explaining the details of the program and requesting the airline information to check you in. You can also obtain information at the guest relations desk.

How is luggage tagged?
Valet tags are printed onboard for each bag and delivered to your stateroom along with instructions and boarding documents. These tags are very similar to standard ship departure tags but are personalized to each participating guest. They have a barcode that contains airline information, which is used by our vendor to generate the official airline tags once luggage is off the ship and at an approved airport location.

What happens to luggage once it is off the ship?
We have two different systems depending on the port.

The Standard Customs system Luggage is laid out with the rest of the luggage coming off the ship. Guests claim their luggage and present themselves to Customs. Once cleared, they proceed to a location outside Customs Hall and drop the luggage with our vendor's staff. Then luggage goes directly to an in-bond truck for transportation to the airport.
Ports with the Standard Customs system: Port Everglades, Miami and San Juan P.R.

The Integrated Customs system Luggage does NOT get laid out with the rest of the luggage coming off the ship. It goes directly to an in-bond truck for transportation to the airport. Guests present themselves to Customs and if required, will be reunited with their luggage for inspection. Ports with the Integrated Customs system: San Diego and Seattle.

No, they told us it was $20 per BAG. Yikes!! =eek =eek Otherwise, one person would "suddenly" have 4 pieces of luggage and their partner would have none. :grin

Ok,somebody just did a review of the AOS as he was leaving yesterday.........heres what he said..
.

There is a fee. It’s 20 per person up to 2 bags per person. Well, we were only checking in 2 bags so I only signed up one of us and put her bag and my bag under the same name. That saved us 20 bucks.

Well, that certainly is better than $20 per bag! Still, that's $80 for a family of 4. I'm willing to drag my bags around for that kind of money!

:lol I've always hated that name, but everytime I mentioned I wanted to change it, people said, "No! Keep it!", so I did.

It finally got to the point that most long-timers here know me by my real name anyway, so I figured I might as well use it! =dunno
