Prayer request - times two

Hi all. If I might impose, I would appreciate any prayers you can spare for two important people in my life.

The first is PizzaBoy. He will be having femur surgery on Friday February 13. The reason for the surgery is that his left knee is bowing inward as one side of his femur has grown faster than the other. The surgeon will implant a small metal plate on the longer side to keep it from growing until the other side catches up and his leg straightens. It's not the surgery that concerns me -- it's the anesthesia. So, any prayers in advance of and during his surgery are greatly appreciated.

Also, I learned tonight that one of my childhood friends has breast cancer. It's in both breasts and she is having a double mastectomy in a few weeks. This was caught during her annual mammogram, and they will also do tests on her lymph nodes and other places that it might have spread. I don't know more than that, yet I suspect it's more serious than she's letting on. So, again, if you can spare any prayers, I would be grateful. To protect her privacy, let's call her "SB." She's only 43.

I understand your fear of anesthesia--MANY MANY yrs ago I had a problem with this during surgery but my dear with all the new developments in the medical field they have everything so fine tuned these days that I'm sure he'll be just fine. However, as a mother I know you won't relax one bit from the moment they take him to surgery til they bring him back to you. Just remember that you have the support & prayers from all of us as you go thru this.

And I sincerely wish the very best for your friend. My mother had breast cancer but she was in denial--she found the lump herself but she IGNORED it for well over a yr!! My mother's cancer had spread to some of her lymph nodes but she refused the normal protocol of treatment--she had the surgery but she refused any chemo/radiation. Your friend had this detected during a "routine" mammogram & if she follows the recommended protocol she has a very good chance of beating this. Just remember that they are making many advances in the treatment & cure of this disease everyday. You know that we just started treatment for my DH's cancer a wk ago & his is WIDE spread throughout his lymph nodes. In the beginning the diagnosis, the tests, the treatment--it is all EXTREMELY over whelming but as the days pass you learn to accept the diagnosis, you learn about the disease, you learn about the treatment & then you learn to LIVE with a serious illness. NEVER lose sight of the fact that millions of people LIVE with cancer so please hang in there--your friend needs you. Positive thoughts are coming your way for a speedy recovery for your friend.

Thank you all. PB had a cold today, so I kept him home from school and put him on bedrest. Thankfully, he listened, and was feeling much better tonight. I hope this won't postpone the surgery, as apprehensive as I am about the effects of the anesthesia.

SB is coming to terms with what she has to face, and thanks everyone for their prayers, also. Her surgery is in early March.

Thanks again, all. I have an update on SB, and it's good news. She had the double mastectomy earlier this month, with no complications. It was also determined that there was no spread to her lymph nodes. She'll be having reconstructive surgery at some point, but for now she and her family (and friends) are relieved. Thank you again for your prayers.

As for PizzaBoy... he's back to his routine, including bowling on Saturdays. He had his all-time high score yesterday.

That is great news, Lisa! I rarely post on this board, but I do read it on a regular basis and include all in my thoughts and prayers.
