Gordon's older sister called us today, to give us some news about her DH. Her hubby Mike has polio that he contracted as a teen, literally the night before his senior prom! (His mom just didn't think he would need a sugar cube!) He's in a wheel chair, and gets around pretty well on his own. They were at an Indian casino (they live in So. Cal) and he went into the men's room, into a handicapped stall, locked the door, slid out of his wheelchair, and somehow managed to wedge his body around the toilet. His leg became jammed up between the wall and the fixture, and he was suddenly in intense pain. EMT's said he didn't break anything so they let him go home. It was horribly difficult to get home, and because he couldn't fit in the passenger side of the handicapped equipped truck, he had to drive home! He's now still in intense pain, lots of swelling, and nothing is working for him to reduce either.
She also said they have a Panama canal cruise booked to take off in 29 days, and they are so hoping he'll be able to make it, since they don't think there are any other canal cruises that are round trip from LA or San Diego after that one. Mike can't fly, so it has to be RT for them. They know they will get their $ from their insurance, but they both really wanted this cruise.
Prayers please, that his pain and swelling go down. It would be great if the cruise were to happen for them, but the main thing is taking care of his leg.
