Prayers for my BIL with Polio

Gordon's older sister called us today, to give us some news about her DH. Her hubby Mike has polio that he contracted as a teen, literally the night before his senior prom! (His mom just didn't think he would need a sugar cube!) He's in a wheel chair, and gets around pretty well on his own. They were at an Indian casino (they live in So. Cal) and he went into the men's room, into a handicapped stall, locked the door, slid out of his wheelchair, and somehow managed to wedge his body around the toilet. His leg became jammed up between the wall and the fixture, and he was suddenly in intense pain. EMT's said he didn't break anything so they let him go home. It was horribly difficult to get home, and because he couldn't fit in the passenger side of the handicapped equipped truck, he had to drive home! He's now still in intense pain, lots of swelling, and nothing is working for him to reduce either.

She also said they have a Panama canal cruise booked to take off in 29 days, and they are so hoping he'll be able to make it, since they don't think there are any other canal cruises that are round trip from LA or San Diego after that one. Mike can't fly, so it has to be RT for them. They know they will get their $ from their insurance, but they both really wanted this cruise.

Prayers please, that his pain and swelling go down. It would be great if the cruise were to happen for them, but the main thing is taking care of his leg.

You can certainly count on my prayers for them, Glo. What a freak accident. Hopefully, your BIL didn't break anything, and it's a matter of time for the injury/swelling to go down. Please keep us updated.

Hope they get to take their cruise.

Thanks Mary Ann. It's been a week, and she's been over whelmed and forgot to contact us. He says nothing has improved, but she says she thinks it looks better, but not as much improvement as you would think there would be in a week. He's heavily in my thoughts tonight.

My prayers for your BIL too Glo! It would definitely be disappointing to have to miss the cruise ... but the main thing is for him to get that swelling down and be feeling better!

How terrible for them. Best wishes for him to improve so that they can go on their cruise.

My SIL said that as of yesterday they did see some reduction in swelling and some of the pain is easing up. She doesn't foresee a cruise in their immediate future, though.

Yesterday the physical therapist came out, and refused to touch his leg because it was so swollen, until he had an xray. The doctors didn't feel it was necessary, but after the PT insisted, his boss called and insisted on one. He should finally get an xray any day.
