I pulled a conniecat stunt and am now laid up in the hospital. My son and I were carrying a cedar chest upstairs from the basement and were trying to manuever a left turn. As we were doing this my foot slipped and twisted. I knew immediately that this was not good. I knew it was broken and would need surgery. My sweet son also knew immediately and asked me if I needed to go to the hopsital. This was Saturday. I broke my leg and ankle in 4 places, one of which is actually shattered. I had surgery on Sunday morning, with rods, plates and screws. The doctor estimated that I will be off work for 18 weeks. I have to learn how to walk without putting any weight on my right foot and leg before I can go home. Not as easy as it sounds.

I feel sooooooooooo stupid!!! All I think about is all the things I should have done to prevent this. My DS also feels bad. It isn't his fault, he just isn't responsible for the dumb thing his mom did. I do love this boy. He has been great, even carrying me out to the van to drive me to the hospital.

If anyone could please say a few prayers for me, this is going to be a long recovery. Thanks in advance.

Oooh, Becky...sounds really bad. But now you are in the right place, even though it's a long road to recovery. Your son sounds like a real good kid, so considerate.

Take care, and hope you can come home soon. God bless...

Well, Becky, welcome to the world of titanium (rods, plates, and screws), but I'm so sorry you must experience them firsthand. Prayers are on the way for healing AND for patience in dealing with your nightmare.

Oh Becky, I'm sorry to read about your accident. Sometimes these things just happen and no one is really at fault. I hope that your recovery goes smoothly. I guess it's bon bons and soap operas for you for several weeks.

ARGH! One little slip... sorry you went through this. No fun at all. Prayers that you learn how to walk correctly so you can get out of the hospital and get home, and recover in record time.

Just lay back & relax & let others do for you.

So sorry to hear this but the key word here is RECOVERY--dr says you will recover but it will just take time. If I had to be laid up I guess I would rather have it be during the cold winter than the middle of summer so guess you'll just have to snuggle down & hibernate as your bones heal. Hope your recovery goes as smoothly as possible. No need to beat yourself up about how & why this happened; at some point we can all say if only I had done this or that but this was simply an unfortunate accident. Try to enjoy your holiday & don't fuss when your friends & family want to take care of you. When my mother was terminally ill my DH & I took care of her in our home & she would always fuss about us having to do so much for her. One day I looked her straight in the eye and said "if this was me or Mike or 1 of the kids would you hesitate to help us?" and from that day forward she never brought it up again. Let your family & friends help you & if there is something extra that you may need or want don't hesitate to ask as I know they will be more than willing to help just as you would help them if the situation was reversed. Wishing you the best as you begin your recovery.

Ah the previous post has so much wisdom, and insight in it..Bless her for sharing..I also agree. heal inside and out, be a place for everyone to visit with love, and when your day gets tough, and they will; remember that it's OK to get a bit upset *AT* the situation, but you are going to be fine, and be easy on yourself!!.Take care,.keep us updated.. and prayers for you and yours......:daisy..Joanne
