Pre and post cruise hotel recommendations in Amsterdam

Hi everyone, My husband and I are taking a cruise out of Amsterdam this coming August and are searching for a place to stay for one night before the cruise and a couple of nights after the cruise. We've never been to Amsterdam and of course am interested in proximity to the port, public transport and, it would be nice if after the cruise the hotel was close to public transport to the center and major museums. I have searched several sites and found many that meet my criteria, but I think the reviews are from people not going on a cruise so I guess my question is more geared to the cruise passengers who have been there since cruising returned in the last 18 or so months. Thanks in advance!

Hello Michelle.
I have no experience with staying in a hotel there. But my recommendation is that you check out TripAdvisor for reviews on the best rated hotels.
I think that most everyone here are like us.. and only been there on a cruise, so only spending a day and not staying overnight.
good luck in your search.

Thank you! I did miss the previous response so thanks for posting it here as well! I started with Trip Advisor and found several places that seem very good and will fit our needs. With so many variables flying these days, we decided to arrive a full day before the cruise so i wanted to hear from others' experiences on proximity to the ship and transportation. I have mapped out several places and it seems it may not be so bad and I'm probably over thinking this.

yes.. you are overthinking this lol

One thing that you most certainly are doing right..is going in a day early!
We always go in early.

when we lived up north, it was a no brainer that we went to a port at least a day in advance. Then we moved to Florida.. about a 3 hour drive to Fort Lauderdale. So we figured that as we could drive down the day of.. that was a great idea for this port.

Then..... we were coming home from a cruise, and had a driver picking us up at the port and driving us home. Well.. a deer decided to commit suiside and jumped out in front of the van... We spent 9.......NINE!!! hours on the road.

Now if that had happened on our drive DOWN to catch that cruise, we would have missed the ship.

So.. now we go at least a day early even to Fort Lauderdale!
The only way that I will go to any port the day of.. is if I know that I am staying close enough to push my suitcase over to the port!
