I am starting to plan a Alaska cruise probably a 7 night cruise. My question is this..... If you use the cruise lines to schedule your airplane flight into Vancouver or Seattle, depending on the location of your cruise start, will they allow you to fly in a day early to avoid schedule problems. I know this is a pretty generic question but I wanted to pose it to experienced Alaska cruisers. I haven't really settled on a particular cruise line yet, but am leaning toward HAL depending on our upcoming carribean cruise this fall on the Zaandam. Also, do you have preferences on the direction of the cruise, and which direction provided the easiest access to return flights toward the southeast.

Thanks
Jim

That is a good question. I would say that no you couldn't book air through cruise line to arrive before the sail date. The cruise line probably only has staff at the airport on the days they sail. That is just my opinion. I could, and probably am, wrong. I just got back from going Northbound. I liked it because the scenery got better as you go. But I have also heard people say that if you are doing a precruise land tour with it it is better to go Southbound. But for cruise only I would definitely recommend Northbound.

Most cruise lines will allow you to deviate your flts (Pick your own) with a fee involved. Ask your TA when you get to the booking point. Some with their Frequent cruiser clubs have that built it at a certain stage. I have only done the Inside Passage which is up and back from Vancouver but I have read that if doing a land tour most suggest to do it first. Vancouver is a great city to spend time in and yes the same can be said about Seattle. Consider the borders crossings and time involved in your plans if you are leaving from Vancouver and flying into Seattle.
