Pride of America sinks
14/1/2004

NCL’s newbuilding Pride of America, sank in the early hours of
this morning at Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven. The ship
due to be delivered in April started to take on water during a
heavy storm and shifted towards a pier. All workers onboard at
the time evacuated the ship and Seatrade Insider understands
two persons were slightly injured. The vessel is currently
grounded alongside the pier and listing at 20 degrees. The
lower three decks are under water and engine spaces are
flooded. (More details to follow).

I too was booked on this ship in June. We just heard from our agent that the Pride of Aloha will be taking the place of the Pride of America starting in June. The Norweigan Sky will be pulled out of service in May and re-fitted to become the Pride of Aloha. This was scheduled to happen in September, but has been moved up. Those on cruises with the America are being contacted to move to the Aloha. Those with cruises before June will be offered something else. Those on the Sky for Alaska this summer are being moved to other NCL ships in Alaska. When I hear back from my agent, I will keep you posted.
