Princess' Dining Choices

Ahoy Mates :)

From time to time, there are questions regarding the dining choices on
Princess ships. Here is an outline of the possible options for dining.

PRINCESS’ DINING CHOICES

On Princess you may choose either “Traditional†or “Anytime Diningâ€Â
under their “Personal Choice Cruising†arrangement. The Diamond
and Sapphire Princess dining experience is somewhat different than
those on other Princess ships.

TRADITIONAL DINING
You may choose either Early (6:30 PM) or Late Seating (8:30 PM) and
be assigned the same table for the entire cruise. You would be served
by the same waiters and have the same dining companions each night.
The menus will be changed every night, usually with an Italian, French
or British, etc., theme to provide a variety of choices. There usually are
two choice of pasta for lunch and dinner. In addition, there will
always be available a steak or chicken entree as well as a healthy
choice selection.

ANYTIME DINING
It provides much more flexibility for your evening dining for you may
dine anytime you choose between 5:30 PM and 10 PM and the menus
will be the same as the ones in the Traditional Dining Room.
However, if you arrive during the peak hour of 7-8 PM, you may have
to wait for a few minutes for your table. If you were to go
earlier or later, you would probably be seated right away.
You also have the option of making a reservation for a set time
or a certain waiter or a specific table.

DIAMOND AND SAPPHIRE ANYTIME DINING
Anytime Dining on these two ships has been expanded to include
FOUR themed Dining Rooms. They are the Sante Fe, (Southwestern),
Pacific Moon, (Asian), Sterling, (Steakhouse), Vivaldi, (Italian) Dining
Rooms. In addition to the menu for the selected specialty restaurant,
you will also receive that evening’s menu for the ‘Traditional’
restaurant. You may select from either or both menus to enhance
your dining pleasure. Since each of these restaurants is much smaller
than the traditional dining room, it is advisable to make reservations
for your preferred dining time shortly after boarding.
There is no service charge in these restaurants.

DIAMOND AND SAPPHINE TRADITIONAL DINING
The specialty dining menus will also be rotated in the traditional dining
room so you may enjoy the specialty dishes. The best of both worlds.

OTHER DINING OPTIONS
SABATINI’S Italian restaurant available for lunch and dinner except on
the Diamond and Sapphire. It features a multi course meal with a
service charge.
The HORIZON COURT buffet is open 24 hours and Room Service is
available 24 hours.
PIZZERIA is open from 11 AM to 6 PM.
BURGER & HOT DOG GRILL is open from 11 AM to 5 PM.

You are mistaken, the Diamond and the Sapphire BOTH have Sabatinin's Restaurant. They have a $20.00 cover charge.

Ahoy TracyM :)

Thanks for your response. I got out my trusty magnifying glass
and looked at the deck plan for the Diamond Princess. I did find
an alternative Italian dining room open for lunch and dinner on
the Promenade Deck. However, it is called 'Fabio's' and it does
have a $20 service charge.

On the Coral and Island Princess there is an alternative dining
room called Bayou Cafe which is open for lunch and dinner
and there is a $10 service charge.

On the Carribean, Dawn, Golden, Grand, Pacific, Star, Sun
and Tahitian Princess there is an alternative dining room
called Sterling Steakhouse which is open only for dinner
and there is a $15 service charge.

The current brochure does list Sabatini's for both the Diamond
and Sapphire Princess with a $20 service charge which is an
error.
It also indicated a service charge for the Sterling Steakhouse
on Diamond and Sapphire Princess which is incorrect.

I guess whomever proof read the material for the brochure
overlooked these mistakes.

We were just on the Diamond in July and ate at Sabatini's for our anniversary. There is no other restaurant onboard the Diamond that has a cover charge. The brochure is correct at listing both Diamond & Sapphire Princess with the Sabatini's Restaurant that charges the cover charge.

I think you are mis-reading something.

You are correct and the Deck Plan in my brochure which listed Sabatini's
as Fabio's was wrong. The primary reason for my post was to clarify
the dining options for Anytime Dining vs the Traditional Dining for
new cruisers.

I did not realize that you had cruised on the Diamond and appreciate
your efforts to correct my mistake. Thanks for your help.

Here's wishing you fair skies and calm seas for your next cruise.

Ciao,
Jack

We booked a cruise on the Princess Diamond, at that time nothing was mentioned about our choice of dining, will they at some time ask us which one we prefer? If we choose free style dining are we able to go to the traditional dining room?
