We would like to book the15 n Hawaii Cruise for March 2006. However, with 3 cruises of 11- 17 days currently booked, we currently have about 3500 tied up just in cabin deposits.

I was wondering if someone other than myself, sailing on a Princess cruise, could make one of those "ghost" bookings I have read about (100 p/p deposit), for someone other than themselves. Or, do you have to be a past passenger of Princess and on board to do it. For instance , my in laws are looking at sailing on the Island Princess in December or January and I was wondering if they would be allowed to book a future cruise for us while they are on the ship.

Used to be able to but with the changes Princess has made in regards to becoming a bit more strict with regards to the Ghost Bookings I do NOT believe it is possible anymore. =shrug

Is your question why would I want someone to do it for me, or why would my Father in Law do it for me.?

I would want someone to do it for me as the deposit while on board is only 100 p/p for your next cruise. THe cruise I want- 15N Hawaii is approx $800p/p deposit to reserve- so $2400 -big difference from tying up $300 to $2400- the cruise is not until 2006. As per my original post I have 3 long cruises currently booked that are tying up $3500 just in reservations deposits.

My FIL would do it for me because he is a nice guy and he loves his family

When we were on Princess in May they did say that you must be a passenger onboard to book a ghost booking. We did not ask if you could book someone else but it was mentioned in the talk in the theater and by the person taking the booking that you must be a passenger onboard.

Okay, do you guys think this would this work.

We want to book a cabin for 3, so if my FIL was sailing on Princess in December and he did a ghost booking for 3 people for a future cruise and put his name on the booking as well as my name and my husbands name, could we remove his name and substitute my daughters name prior to final payment? That should work shouldn't it?

I don't know - I would think not, but ............I think the person who books it must somehow be on that cruise!

Oh, it is not the BOOKING, but you want someone to PAY for you due the money it would take. So, you are asking someone to BORROW money for awhile.

Right?

Not Exactly! I was going to give my FIL $300 to book a cabin for 3 people. That would be substantially less than the deposit required to hold the cabin by a regular TA!

Right?

MortgageChick - can your FIL get you a Share the Wealth coupon? I am not sure if that will do what you are looking for but I know that the coupons are given to friends and family to be able to book at the $100 deposit rate.

Something to look into - also I think you only deposit for the first 2 people in the cabin so it would be $200.

Okay, after reading this a few times, I see that the real thing is the REDUCED cost of having someone onboard book for you. Lower deposit, then doing it elsewhere. Did I figure it out?

I'd make reservations for a whole bunch of people if they'd let us. It's such a great thing to do. I can just kick myself for not making more of these bookings for ourselves!! :mad

They can only accept deposits for the future bookings for passengers onboard. I tried to do it for my parents. But they do give you two coupons for family members to book @ the reduced deposit and the shipboard credits still apply. My coupons show the booking number onboard the Caribbean Princess, our name, sail date, etc. The coupon is good for two years from date of your sailing. It can either mailed in to Princess or given to your travel agent for a booking. I used it for my parents when I got back.

We booked the Diamond Princess for February 2005 while onboard the Regal Princess. We have 2 friends that might go with us, so the onboard agent gave us 2 "Share the Wealth" coupons. That means our friends get to book with only $100 deposits and get the same cabin credits.
