We have not sailed Princess to Alaska (or anywhere for that matter) but have sailed Celebrity, HAL, and NCL. First let me say that we loved Celebrity and will sail this line again, even to Alaska.

That said.......Celebrity doesn't go to Glacier bay. Choose Princess. Especially if you get to both Glacier bay and College Fjord. Glacier bay is spectacular!!!! And I've heard some say that College Fjord is just as good or better (never been myself).

Hubbard Glacier is awsome as well but not as nice as Glacier Bay.

We also happened to like Skagway better than Sitka.

I would think that if you're doing a land tour to Denali, etc that the southbound would work better. Only because I'd prefer to do the running around, riding trains and/or busses, and then relax for a week on the ship to unwind.
