Purchases on the ship & tips

I'm a little confused by what I read so I would like clarification.

On other cruises - (Royal) We had the Cruise Ship's card and every purchase made on the ship went toward your account.
On the last day we received the summary of the expenses.
Is that the same for NCL or will we have to actually pay for each transaction (via credit card or cash)?

Regarding tipping - on Royal you tipped everyone on the last day. Do we need to pay tips at each meal etc.?

No. It's the same. You pay for on-board purchases with your card. Tips are assessed to your account on a daily basis. At the end of the cruise you can increase, decrease or leave them as is. Additionally, you can always give an additional cash tip to anyone you wish. other than that, cash tips are normally given at the time of service for room service only.

Romona,

Where did you even get an idea like that? All cruise lines work exactly the same way and I never seen anything that would cause you to think differently..What you could be referring to, is a statement by some about the gratuities being added daily to your on board account. Maybe that confused you. Most lines are doing that now as well.

You will give your Credit card number the day you board and will receive your sign and sail card. The only place that accepts any cash is the casino.
