Quad cabin - worse or better chance of upgrade?

We are booked in a quad cabin on the Diamond Princess for April 04, and I was just wondering if having a quad makes a difference in our chances for an upgrade. Has anyone been upgraded when you had a quad? Thanks!

I have been told that a triple or quad has a chance next to none of an upgrade.

I was told the other way around. We are 2 people and they need the quad cabins for more people and money, or so my agent said. Well anyway long story short we went from the lowest inside (quad) cabin on the Grand to an outside on an upper deck midship. I would never book a cabin based on getting an upgrade though. I would have been happy with the inside. Sure I was thrilled to get the upgrade, but don't book counting on one. I booked because the price was too good to pass up.

I think if there are 4 of you booked in a quad you are not going to get an upgrade. There are not that many quad cabins available, so I would not anticipate that any would be available for upgrading. I have booked quad cabins numerous times and never once have we ever got an upgrade.

Sunshine is right, if you are using all the beds in the quad, it is not likely you will get an upgrade. I was looking at it as if you were 2 in a quad as we are.

If there are 4 people booked, it will be harder to get an upgrade, because they have to upgrade you into another cabin with 4 berths, and they are not very plentiful. Now, if you are only 2 in a quad cabin, you have a fairly good chance of getting upgraded if they need your cabin for a party of 4.

Definitely harder with 4 people in a quad cabin to get an upgrade. If it was easier, we'd risk it too. We'd like to go with a guarantee sometime, but I want 2 adjoining cabins and getting an upgrade to better adjoining cabins is also next to NIL. :(

Have to agree with all of the above. We booked a quad on Grand Princess just under 12 months prior to sailing and despite the best efforts of our TA there was no upgrade available as quad cabins are at a premium and are amongst the first cabin type to sell out. If a certain quad cabin grade is important to you then I would recommend booking it from the outset and not hold out in the hope of an upgrade.
