Question about Grand Princess

After reading a post below saying that the 2004-2005 pricing was already out for Princess, I called the cruiseline, and sure enough, it is. So I booked a cruise for April 2005 out of Galveston. Since I know nothing about Princess ships, I relied on the information the rep at Princess gave me. She booked us on the Baja Deck in an outside cabin with balcony. Is this a good deck????? Thanks!! Now......can this booking be transferred to a travel agent, and what is the advantage of doing so????

Nitestar - I would definitely transfer the booking to a TA. There are some good ones on the links section of this website.

The Baja Deck is quieter than the Aloha Deck, but the balcony isn't very big at all. If you want a deeper balcony, go with the Caribe Deck balcony cabins. It's not hard at all for a a TA to change the cabins. There shouldn't be too much of a price difference, but you'd get twice the balcony.

Also, try to stay as mid-ship as possible on the Grand. Take a ride on the Voyage of Discovery ride in the video arcade on a port day (1/2 price usually). It's a fun thing to do once. The Painted Desert has great guacamole and tortilla soup!

Hope your countdown goes by quickly! :)

Lady Jag. Why is the Aloha deck louder? I am on that deck on November 9 this year, but have an inside cabin (one of the larger ones, there are like 5 of them on the ship).

It's directly below the Lido Deck. If you look at the deck plan, there are tons of chaise lounges that will get moved and stacked at night by the pools and then again in the morning, they are slid all over the deck to be put in place. (noisy!)

Also, the Horizon Court is above the Aloha Deck. Tables, pots & pans being moved around at night make noise there. Don't forget, that's one of the busiest decks of all on the ship - more passengers go to that deck than any other. Think about all those Island Parties up on that deck, the bands, the people swimming, and the other noises associated with lots of people coming & going.

My sister had a cabin on the Aloha Deck and experienced some of these noises. Her balcony was very, very small, but was fully covered. It's all a matter of your own tastes. Had my sister known ahead of time that the Caribe balconies were so much bigger, she would have paid the little bit extra to get one and to avoid the noise directly above her.

If you look at the deck plans, you'll notice the Aloha Deck inside cabins are right under the pools. Will there bill very loud pool equipment running night & day? Will you hear people jumping into the pools above you? Just some considerations. If I were you, I'd go with the inside cabins on the Baja Deck. That way, you'd be 'insulated' by the cabin deck above you and the cabin deck below you. :)

From what I hear, if your inside cabin is directly below the pool, you will not hear any noises. You do nto hear peopel in the pool and you do not hear any motors or filters as they re very quite. I would not switch my room because their inside cabins are 160 square feet whereas the one I got is 182 square feet. They have a few that are larger (not wheelchair or for 4 people, just 2) so i will stay where I am at. I have spoken to many people who say being under the pool is fine.
