Question about PVPs

I booked my cruise (balcony guarantee) through Carnival's website. The next morning, a PVP left two messages on my voicemail. Do I need to call him back, or is he just going to try to sell me a bunch of stuff that I don't want? Basically, what purpose does the PVP serve since I've already booked?

Call them back. They may be trying to sell stuff you don't want. Then again, they may not. Your PVP has, in a sense, become your TA for this particular cruise.

This is probably the PVP (Personal Vacation Planner) that your account has been assigned
to, it would only be natural that they might want to interest you in additional items or activities
but they also may just want to introduce themselves and let you know that if any problems
arise that they are there to help just as a travel agent would had you booked through an
outside agency.

Thanks. He sent me an e-mail as well, so perhaps I'll just respond to that. Easier to say "no" while typing.

I realize everybody's skeptical about being pushed into a hard sell these days, but.........

I've been dealing with Carnival PVPs for years, and have yet to have even one PVP try to sell me on anything. I've never even been asked if I want to upgrade at a fee, or anything at all. I've enjoyed chatting with my PVPs about cruising, and getting any add'l info I need, but never had one try to 'sell' me anything.

I can't even imagine WHAT they would try to sell you. Probably just wants to let you know he's there in case you have any questions. Please let us know the outcome if you do speak with him..... I'd be interested to know if Carnival is changing tactics. Thx.

I cant for the life of me figure out what they could sell you besides trip insurance. the agent may want to take a few minutes to go over the booking and check for errors-- misspelled name could cost you 50 bucks somewhere down the line.
Give him a chance and find out what they want./

I agree with BlueChef and Serene56. Execpt I would add, the PVP may be calling because there is a problem. If you don't respond, the problem could get worse. Return the call and find out what the PVP wants.

I did reply to him, and he didn't seem to know much about anything. I saw a thing online about how previous cruisers could save/get upgraded. So I asked him about it through e-mail. His response? "How did you book this cruise?" (I had booked it directly through Carnival's website, which is what prompted the phone calls and e-mails.)

Um, OK. As soon as I booked the cruise (through Carnival), I received 3 phone calls and 6 e-mails from you. You are insisting that I need to contact you, yet when I do, you are clueless.

Sorry - I'll figure it out some other way.

I am pretty disappointed with this.

Call reservations, tell them you want a DIFFERENT PVP, if this is the way this
person handles an introduction you sure don't want them if you have a problem.
I have never used a PVP as I have my own travel agent but the program is the
same, this person is your contact and intermediary when you need to contact
Carnival concerning your booking.

Bob has a good point. I booked a cruise directly through Carnival. Five people in two cat 11 suites. Four of the people had the same last name. All booked at once (by me). Yet the person did not link the two cabins for dinner seating. Fortunately that PVP left and the new one noticed the problem right-a-way and corrected. So you do want a PVP who has a little more on the ball than yours seems to have.

The six e-mails I can understand (I still get them). But three phone calls??? I never got one unless I asked for a return call, and then it was 50/50. What is so important that the PVP leaves three messages, then has no clue who you are???

Sorry. Looks like you got a dingbat PVP. It happens. If you need to know anything further about your cruise, call the 800 number and ask for "a" PVP. You'll probably get a different one that way, and ANY PVP can look up your cruise and answer questions for you. You can always ask to speak to a PVP supervisor.
