Question about taking a case of water on airline/cruise

Hi everyone,
I am new to this site and looking forward to my third Princess cruise. We are sailing on the Caribbean Princess in September to the Western Caribbean. Our other two cruises where on the Diamond and Sapphire to the Mexican Riviera. We did not have to fly to the ship for those cruises. This cruise we will be flying into Florida. My question is this: Can I package a case of water in a box, seal it up, and check it in with our luggage for the flight over? I have not checked on the website for all the changes in air travel since 9/11.

We drink a lot of water and thought it might be cost effective to bring our own.

Also, if anyone has any helpful suggestions regarding the Caribbean Princess that would be great. We booked a mini-suite. I hate wishing my time away, but can't wait for September. Half the fun for me is the anticipation and planning!!!!

Thanks for your help,
bishrose

We're big water drinkers also. Don't try to fly with the water.

Pick up a case/flat of whatever you want at the liquor store, or the grocery store, off of 17th St. in FLL.
Stick your luggage tag to it.
Give it to the stevedores at the pier, along with your luggage (and a tip).
It'll appear at your door a few hours later.

Thanks Lady Jag for the info. We will be taking a shuttle from the airport to the ship that Princess has arranged. Is is possible to get a taxi to the store to purchase the water once the shuttle drops us off? I'm not sure how much time we will have before the ship sails. Sorry to sound so ignorant about this, but I have never been to this port before.

Personally I would cancel the transfer if I was you and just take a cab from the airport. I am assuming you are flying into FLL, correct? You can actually see the cruise ships from the airport, you are so close. The cab ride will only be about $10-$15 and you can have the cab take you to the grocery store and wait while you grab your water.I Have never looked into the transfers but from what I hear they are more expensive then the cab plus you have to wait for the bus to fill up.

We are sailing the Caribbean Princess in September, only we are doing the Eastern route this time. Have a nice cruise!

I'm with Whimsy on this one. It is such a hassle to wait for those cruise line busses to fill up!!

Just grab a taxi from the airport, have him stop at a grocery or liquor store so you can get what you need then continue on to the port. It'll be much easier that way (and probably a lot cheaper if you have paid for the cruise line transfers which are expensive!).

If it was any other port, it might be different, but FLL is very easy & inexpensive to move around in. I would expect to pay maybe $20 for a one-way trip in the taxi with the stop. :)

Thanks Whimsy and Lady Jag that is exactly what we will do. We'll get a taxi and head to the store for water before we board. Not having been to this airport I had no idea what we were up against. Your suggestions will save us time and money. I'm all for not being too cheap on a vacation, but I hate the idea of paying for bottled water on the ship when we drink so much of it. I don't mind the tap water on ship but DH is not so keen on the idea!!

Happy cruising to both of you!!

I'm relatively new to flying and I had only taken a cab once before in my whole life. (small town girl here!) Our last cruise was an education for sure but it all went smooth. I even took a cab in Cozumel! I had read that FLL was easy to get around it was one of the reasons we chose it for our cruise last year.

Have a great time and take care of the Caribbean Princess for me!

What week are you going?

Whimsy,
We'll do our best to leave her in good shape for you. We are sailing out September 16th. We hope to do the Eastern Caribbean next. I need to figure out how to get those cute "pictures" you all put on your posts (can you tell I'm not too computer literate).

Have a great cruise!!

YOu will be getting off when we are getting on.

If you go to the community message board and post someone will help you get a ticker in your signature. I forgot how I got mine.

You'll love the Caribbean. We sailed her in November of 2005.

We also just recently sailed (4/07) on the Crown Princess and they are very similar ships.

Feel free to check out our personal website www.adwalsh.com for many pictures of both ships. We were in a Dolphin Deck mini-suite on both ships and there are a lot of pictures of the cabin.

Bon Voyage!!!

Thanks adwalsh,
I'll check out the site. We are also getting a mini-suite. We've had cabins with balconies, but this will be our first time for a mini-suite. Thanks for the info.

The best thing about the Princess minis is that you get 2 TVs - one for you & one for him. If you have a DH that likes to flip channels constantly, this is a sanity-saver!! :lol

Whimsy is right - FLL is very, very easy to get around in. The airport, pier and grocery-type stores are all very close together. :)
