Question for the nurses......

I have put off asking this, but I am at my wit's end. Right after I brought Simon into the house, I was sitting talking to him and he decided he wanted in my lap. So, he climbed my leg. He must have enjoyed all the screaming and yelling, so he climbed the other one.
Twenty little pinpricks in each leg. Not deep enough to bleed, but it made my legs ooze water in several places.

The problem is, I have 3 or 4 places that I cannot get to stop. I have lymphedema. I have tried lotion, cream, vaseline, talcum powder (that worked the one time I had this happen before), astrigents, and a styptic pencil. The internet even suggested a paste made with baking soda, and that didn't work. I tried wrapping my leg in an Ace bandage, but that made it worse. I can't sit with my legs up, because of the spinal cord damage in my back, can't stand the pressure. Aloe lotion stops it for hours, but it comes back.

I DO NOT want to call my doctor after all the breathing and sinus problems I have had in the last couple weeks.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Not a nurse, but am an EMT w/30+ years of trauma experience ...

Cruise Cutie hit it right on the head. Get to the doctor before we get to you and send you to the Emergency Department! Connie, if you want to experience denial, go to Africa. There's a river there by that name (De-Nile). But don't ignore the problem while it's still treatable!

GET TO YOUR DOCTOR NOW!!! Lymphedema and edema are not the same thing. And innocent kitty wounds may not necessarily be innocent to humans' systems.

connie, I hope you can get to the doctor and all checks out.

Same for Simon, hoping he doesn't have to spend the night at the vet.

Keeping good thoughts :)

You don't need to duck, Cc, and everyone else, I appreciate the concern. I am not calling my GP, he still has hospital in his eyes. BUT, I have an appt already I had forgotten about, with my rheumatologist. I will talk to him then. His PA talked to me about treatments, before, but just as a suggestion at the time.

I am keeping my eye out for infection, I am already taking antibiotics anyway. It seems to be much better today, have not had any problems. Thanks everyone. And as Scrapbook Lady says, I am doctor shy, just like my DB. It runs in the family and drives her nuts!!!

I know it is not the same but when my cat bite me a few years back, you all told me to go to the emergency room and glad I did. Even with that excellent care, I suffered. Cat bites or scratches are some of the most dangerous injuries and nothing at all to mess with. Please be safe.

Connie - there is a difference between lymphedema and edema of the LE. You do have documented pulmonary problems. I will just reiterate what CC said......get thsyelf's behind to a doctor ASAP!. I know your love your kitties......well, they need you to be around!

Have you tried laying down on the bed and putting a pillow or two underneath your calves and feet to elevate your legs?

Yu know, I think you are right Lisa, I think it is edema instead of lymphedema. I don't know where I got that idea, but I have done some research today, and I think you are right.

I was taking nsaids for my RA, and they caused me to retain a lot of water. I do take diuretics which work very well, but they don't help the leg swelling. They have taken me off the nsaids because of the swelling and the stomach pain. I was told to just use ibuprofen, but it sends my BP up.

I can't lay on my back for more than a few minutes because of the spinal damage.

My system is so messed up, it is a medical miracle I get out of bed each morning.lol.

But, everything has been fine tonight, so maybe I just panicked too soon. I will talk to the RA doc tho.
