Question re: transportation to and from FLL airport?

My wife and I are going on our first cruise ever on the Maasdam on 4/13. I just got finished booking the cruise. Can anyone give me any ideas about how we are to get from the airport to the boat. Should we take a cab, is there a bus, does the cruise line have transportation? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Any other helpful hints on what to expect for the cruise on a whole would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks,
Wally

Fort Lauderdale is SO easy on your own, there's no need to do cruise transfers. You will be able to see the port from the airport it's so close - you'll likely fly over the ships just before you land.

Once you've collected your baggage, just grab a cab - should be about $10 total (not per person) and you'll be taken directly to your ship. :)

Wally - Have a great cruise on the Maasdam - we're right behind you cruising on 4/20!

I agree with BurBunny - get a taxi. My mom and I waited a couple of hours at the luggage claim area of the airport in January for the transfer only to find out that it was literally a five minute ride.

Walldozer....I agree with the others. Take a taxi.

After you collect your luggage from baggage claim, exit the terminal, see taxi stand (they are located outside baggage claim at all the terminals); tell taxi driver..... "Port Everglades to the Maasdam" .....sit back and relax. Within ten minutes he will drop you right at where the stevedores are located. Be certain you have put on your HAL baggage tags AFTER YOU CLAIM YOUR LUGGAGE AT THE AIRPORT. DO NOT PUT THEM ON BEFORE YOU ARRIVE IN FLL. Tip the stevedores (to insure you see your bags again :) ); enter the cruise terminal and you can check in for your cruise.

Have a wonderful time......Maasdam owns our hearts. We love that "dam" ship.

Taxi. It is easy and about $10 and takes 5 to 10 minutes tops. We always go down the night before so we don't have the issues with flights being late, delayed or cancelled.

Thank you all for your help.

One other question though. Do you do the same when the cruise is over? Are there plenty of taxis available to meet the demand of all of the travelers getting off the ship. You have been so helpful. Thanks again.

Yes...there are always taxis available at the Port. You may have to wait a few minutes, but they do repeated airport/hotel runs and you will be able to get a taxi back to the airport.
