I have some questions about Destiny. What is she like? Nice? Old? and so on.....I have been on 4 RCI cruises and this will be my first Carnival cruise and am concerened about the boats. Can anyone recommend one ship over the other? Thanks in Advance!

It's not the oldest nor is it new. It's the only one of it's class and I personally think it's not as easy to navigate the decks as the other Carnival ships are. (Perhaps that's why they didn't build a second one.) For whatever problems the Destiny may have...the itinerary out of San Juan is phenomenal.

Hello,

We were on the Destiny in September of 2006. I thought is was a nice ship. I don't recall how easy/difficult the layout was, because it always takes me the whole trip to really figure my way around. The only thing we noticed when we were boarding the ship was the their is a high volume of Puerto Rican cruisers. The same thing is true when you board in Long Beach as there will be tons of locals boarding also. I only mention it, to prepare you! Ever message that they need to give over the speaker system will be read in multiple languages, which can be annoying at times!

The itinerary was great! I loved each and every port, each for different reasons. Plan a trip/excursion for Dominica, the shopping and local food selection is not very grand. But the rain forest is amazing to see and wader through. The local bottled water in Aruba was so tasty, try some! I could go on forever!

Just remember that you will sweat, sweat, and sweat some more! But I was having so much fun that it never bothered us!

Have fun!

Actually the Destiny is a class of ship, and the first of the class, so she is the oldest in this style of ship. There is also the Triumph and Victory (which was the last of this class then they stretched it and started the Conquest Class which is VERY similar to Destiny but larger (stretched) with extra public areas such as dinner clubs etc that the Destiny does not have. We had no problem navigating around this class or the Conquest class of ship if you just remember the areas that have the blocked floor plan due the the galley being between the two dining rooms (on two levels). It is true that the ship sailing out of San Juan may have a larger then average Puerto Rican passenger ratio but that isn't always the case. If the ship isn't filling up then they offer deep discount rates to the local folks, the same they do to Florida residents on Florida sailing ships. We've sailed Destiny and didn't notice any difference in passenger demographic then any ship we've sailed from a FL port.

Because the Destiny is a port intensive cruise you are on the ship to eat and sleep. Book the destiny if you want to go to the ports.
The ship is fine.

I just cruised the Destiny and loved it. The ship is in great condition and I was pleased with the overall cleanliness of the ship. The crew/staff members were always nice and we didn't have any issues with a lot of rude fellow passengers (I read a lot of reviews about rude passengers prior to my cruise). The ports are beautiful and I wouldn't hesitate to sail the Destiny again in the future. It's really port intensive but we had a great time in spite of being super tired. As much as I loved the ports, I was glad when the only sea day we had came around. We relaxed the entire day.

Here is a link to my review.

We sailed her a couple of years ago and it was a beautiful ship. We've also sailed the Liberty, which is very similar, the Triumph, which is Destiny class ship; and we're sailing the Glory, which is also similar to the Destiny. They're all fine ships. We really loved our Destiny cruise. Great ports, great weather, great time!
