Questions about sailing on Conquest

We are first time cruisers and I would like to hear from anyone who has recently sailed from Galveston on the Conquest. My husband and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary - first trip without kids (now 19 & 17). We are hoping that cruising will become a BIG part of the next 20 years.

Any tips on shore excursions, ship secrets or little knowns, how to dress, etc.

Also, we booked this cruise over 6 months ago, when should we get paper work from Carnival? Is there a way to find out our cabin assignment now?

You can receive your documents anywhere from 2 days to 2 months ahead. Keep watching your mail since they could be delivered anytime now.

When you get your documents thats about the only place to look for your cabin assignment. Most of your documents will say TBA or GTEE
but only once place--- the sign and sail application page- the back on the bottom will be a long string of numbers. the first set is your booking number.. the number right after that will be your cabin number-- but that could change up til sailing. ( very low percentage it will change) ask the porter to verify your cabin before you hand over your luggage.

You should be registered to use the carnival. go into my profile which can be found on the top of the main page-- and find ADD A BOOKING NUMBER.

Make sure to find the Sur Mer seafood bar early in the cruise, before the crowds discover it. It is directly above the main buffet ares. Take one of the twin staircases. There is also a nice seating area up there, again with no crowds early in the cruise. Try the fish and chips, but my favorite was the Cajun spiced octopus!

Sailed the Conquest twice now. Once out of New Orleans and once out of Galveston - going back on her April 15th.
Sur Mur is fantastic - we try not to tell anyone about it - it remains undiscovered for most of the cruise and so is a great place to get great food fast.
We also love the deli and the 24 hour pizza and the grill and the ice cream and the Monet dining room!
Ports of call - well, we don't even get off the ship in Jamaica. However, the canopy tour is wonderful and would be a temptation for us if we were younger and I wasn't such a chicken!
Cayman Islands - the swim with the dolphins is a great attraction. We hated the turtle tour, Hell was a waste of time. Seven mile beach is nice if you like beaches and the shops right off the ship are fun to browse.
Cozumel - our favorite for food, fun and shopping! I have bought several diamonds there and probably will again this trip.
The casino has been good to us as well - my husband usually wins enough to fund at least one of our fares (however, most of it goes back into the machines if he wins it early)
Hope you enjoy it - what cabin category are you getting?
We have always done a balcony and have always received an upgrade. Found out today that the last one we were upgraded from an 8A (the guaranteed balcony category) to a 9A - we knew we loved that cabin, but didn't realize we had received a $400/person upgrade!!!
