Hi Linda,
I'm not sure if Shiplookout answered your questions yet, but since I was there with him, thought I might try to help...
We were lucky because he had a contact who got us on board extra quick, but it looked like the lines moved along pretty quickly, and the employees were friendly... I think it might be best to show up as early as possible to avoid the lines, since everyone still has to stop at Customs and the metal detectors...
The first night we didn't see how crowded the dining rooms were because we fell asleep- After you leave the port there is a party around the pool with a barbecue, so we took a lot of pictures of the city as we left, had a late lunch, and crashed in our cabin until right before the show. After the show the 24-hour fast food place, Blue Lagoon, was pretty packed and I thought we had no other option than room service, but I read that other restaurants serve later, so check around...
Room service is not bad, especially for sandwiches and dessert - the children's menu had grilled cheese and PBJ, which, although not as good as at home, made for filling comfort food in lieue of going out- I can tell you NOT to order the room service pizza, and DO ask for things not on the menu, like ice cream... The room service breakfast, which you can order on a card you hang on your doorknob the night before, was good but only continental- no eggs. I found their croissants with butter quite addictive. And iIt did double as a wake up call, since they usually called before delivering it.
Also, I heard that between the bars on the pool deck there was something called Sprinkles that had free ice cream, in addition to Haagen Daz bars you had to pay extra for... maybe I just didn't try at the right time of day, but I never found it - which is probably a good thing, all things considered, lol...
Best wishes on your cruise, and let me know if you have any other questions!
