Quick Comments on the Galaxy

Hi

I just returned from an 11 day cruise on the Galaxy. This was my 12th cruise (Carnival, RCCL, Princess, and Kristina). I have some quick observations:

- I have never experienced the level of service I found on the ship, as well as on shore during embarkation and disembarkation. All of the crew were polite and friendly--including deck hands and other trade workers.

- There were a lot of people on board in wheelchairs. Additionally, at least four others in the motorized version--almost like a scooter.

- On sea days, it was hard to find a chair around the pool. But, there were lots of chairs elsewhere.

- There was an extremely wide range of passengers. Age, as well as economic background. I've never encountered the diversity I found here. (Including one middle-aged couple who either shouldn't cruise, or use a cruise line with a much less stringent dress code.)

And, a negative:
- I hated the fact that there was no wrap around promendade deck. 12 times around a jogging track just doesn't do it for me.

All in all, a wonderful cruise. Then again, there were 5 SEA DAYS! What could be bad about that?

If you have specific questions, please email me.

Hi Charles,

I am going on the Galaxy in September on an 11-day Canada/New England cruise. How do the rooms compare to other lines you've been on? How are the public rooms? Are there many places to sort of get lost for a while? And as for the dining, how was the service and food? I've only sailed on the Horizon and am looking forward to the Galaxy.

Hi

This was my first Celebrity cruise. So, I can't compare it to other Celebrity ships. The cabin was larger than RCCL, about the same size as Princess (perhaps a little larger), and a little smaller than the one Carnival ship I've been on. Bathroom was larger than all but Princess. Shower was larger than all except princess. Storage space was much better than I have experienced on other lines.

The ship, and the public rooms, we very well done. Understated elegance. There is art work all over the ship. Most of the time, you don't realize it is art work. Dining was excellent. The quality of the food was better than I have experienced before. Service all over the ship, including dining, was clearly superior.

As for getting lost, there are lots of nooks and crannies, both inside and out, that one could get lost in. On the outside, the back of deck 8 had about 12 lounge chairs available. The back of deck 10 had the same number of lounge chairs with pads, and 2 tables. (Deck 8 was less traveled.) Inside spaces included small lounge areas located on decks 5, 6, 7, and to a lesser degree, deck 8 In general, these areas are in the middle of each deck on the exterior walls (with windows.) Also, the Stratosphere Lounge on deck 12 forward was a great quiet place during the day.

Hope that helps

Charles

I was on the same cruise and I would agree 110% with Charles. It was a fabulous cruise and the Galaxy is still a wonderful ship.

Hi oceanichouse,

Our personal Galaxy cruise website has a link to DChaing's Celebrity Cabin Photo Index, which has many photos of different staterooms on the Galaxy. For public rooms, we have quite a number of photos. We have menus, bar lists, activities sheets, and lots more:

We'll be happy to try to answer any of your questions.

Dear First Time Cruiser:

You picked a great ship. The Galaxy will meet all of your expectations. We started using Celebrity a few years back after taking numerous other lines and nothing compares to the service, size of the cabins and value for the dollar that Celebrity offers.

We are going to Europe in Sept to take the Transatlantic in Sept on the Galaxy.

I agree with all that has been said about the Galaxy. We went on 2 cruises on the Galaxy. In August of 2002 we did the 10 Western Caribbean itinerary with our family. This past August we did the 11 night Eastern Caribbean cruise. We felt that the service and food exceeded our expectations. Aside from the understated elegance of the Galaxy, that Charles mentioned, I'd like to add some of my personal experiences onboard.

My daughter got engaged on the first formal night. Our waiter and the rest of the dinng room staff made this wonderul occassion even more special. The wine steward suggested the perfect bottle of champagne, & the head waiter brought out a special cake (that I didn't think to order). She and her fiance got the royal treatment and a song.

I was very dissappointed when the Galaxy was taken out of Baltimore for the summer cruises to the Caribbean. I would have repeated these itineraries again. We've been on 17 cruises on various cruise lines , but the Galaxy has been my favorite.

The ship offered something for all age groups. My children's favorite was Tex Mex night and the Western line dancing. We all loved the pool and although somedays it was more difficult to find a lounge chair, we always managed. There is nothing as relaxing as soaking up some rays sipping the drink of the day. The food was outstanding no matter where you went for a meal. We always ate dinner in the dinning room, but for lunch and breakfast we'd go to the grill or buffet. We tried not to miss the afternoon tea. We certainly didn't need to eat 4 or five meals a day but what a delicious way to keep up our strength.

We were all impressed at the friendliness of every crew member. We were always greeted with a smile. Everyone did their best to make the passengers feel pampered . The Galaxy is a very well run ship, and the wonderful attitude of the crew can be felt and appreciated.
