R.I.P. Coysdad's Father

ShipMaven

Forever Remembered
This is from an announcement I just received from Jim (Coysdad), and with the permission of Patty, his DW, to post on Safe Harbor.

It is with much sadness that I have to inform all of you of the passing of my father today. He has been very ill for two months following the discovery of an e-coli infection. Despite the doctors’ best efforts with massive antibiotic treatments, he was never able to recover from the effects of the infection.

I want to thank all of you for the moral support and the continued prayers. He will be sorely missed and has left an empty place in me that will never be filled. Thank you all and please continue to keep us in your prayers as we try to deal with this loss.

Please keep Jim and Patty in your prayers. I spoke with Patty a few minutes ago - Jim and she are heartbroken. This is especially unnerving for me because e-coli is what caused me to be hospitalized in May and prevented me from cruising to Bermuda.

Jim and Patty, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Even though we realize our parents can't live forever, losing them leaves a gap that can never be filled. I miss mine every day. I was also devastated to hear that E. coli had struck again. Even though my dad had termial lung cancer, it was the E. coli that caused his death and I wish more could be done about it. Prayers are on the way for your family as you deal with your sorrow. We love you!

E-coli was the actual cause of my MIL's death as well. A death of this nature just makes me so very angry because in many cases e-coli is preventable and is caused by improper sanitary precautions ....especially in nursing homes and hospitals where there are so many patients with compromised immune systems! Remember that old mantra...wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands...and follow through with it! Wash your veggies too...and cook your ground beef to an internal temperature of 160F (you must use a meat thermometer!!) You might want to be very careful of deli types of food too!

Sending sincere condolences to Jim and Patty. E-Coli is one nasty, stubborn bacteria. Many people die from this each year.
