Radiance Of The Sea Balcony View

Just came back from the Radiance. Nice cruise, good food and good service. What bothered me was we had a balcony on deck 7 and we discovered that on this ship there was a shelf or awning that extended about 20 feet out from the bottom of the balcony, all the way down both sides of the ship.. Really blocked part of the view. I considered this a partially obstructed view. Every picture we took had a big white awning at the bottom. Also, RC workers walked up and down this metal awning and looked in the balcony rooms. Is it this ship or all RC ships in this class?

Not all ships are like that.............thats why when in doubt, ask on this board for info on different cabins..........with all the people, surely someone has had a cabin like they one you are looking at..........

Sorry you were disappointe with your "view"..

I believe that "shelf" is to cover the lifeboats. I wonder if all Radiance class ships are like that?

Yes the shelf did cover the life boats. I have just never seen life boats stick out so far that they need a shelf. I did not notice any inside cabins across or down the hall from us so I guess that is why the balcony decks(7 & 8) were indented. I have been on a lot of different ships and I have never seen an extension like that. We have sailed RC, HAL, Carnival and NCL.

It wasn't that bad because we had been to all the ports before. But if I had been on an Alaska cruise, I would really have been upset. We went to Alaska on the NCL Pearl and it was nice to be on your balcony, sheltered from the wind and taking pictures. The pics on this ship would not have been as good due to the shelf.

Nothing like an AFT cabin..........the views cant be beat..........we try to get one most times and it was the BEST for Alaska......

All four Radiance class ships have the lifeboat covers. There are however balcony cabins on deck 7 forward and aft of the lifeboats that don't have the cover below. I always have a brochure with deck plans handy when I book so that I can see what's above and below a prospective cabin.

It just looks like a white patio just off your balcony. It only restricts your view of the water alongside the hull......you can still see straight out, which is where you normally look.

I was gonna say ,just remember all those pics of George Smith and where he fell...........that was on the Brilliance(another Radiance class) I know its a gruesome thought, but I can picture that vividly.............

I have looked at the deck plans, but how do you know which rooms are not above a "shelf"?

I'm just gonna reply too cause I just got back from Radiance a few weeks ago and we were on deck 7 right by the "shelf." it kinda stunk but like most have said not all ships have that. Enchantment wasn't like that, that I remember. And from what PH8 said about George Smith, I remember thinking when I saw that picture what it was cause Enchantment didn't have the shelf.

RD, look at the deck six plans, then superimpose[in your mind] deck seven over it by lining up stair cases or elevator shafts. If deck six plans do not show the lifeboats, then it's the indented parts fore and aft of the centrum where the lifeboats sit.
