Rainforest/waterfall tour in Dominica - ? about snakes & bugs?

We are on the Destiny this Oct with a stop in Dominica. We are considering the different rainforest tours, but I'm a bit nervous about it. For those of you who have been here, are there snakes? I am petrified(seriously, I won't even go in the reptile house at the zoo) of snakes, bats, and also any large creepy-crawly type insects. Should I just stay on the ship? I've read it's such a pretty island, I would hate to miss it, but I dunno....
Also, if we do go, any clothing/footwear suggestions? Should we take the camcorder or just a disposable waterproof camera? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

It is so lush, beautiful and tropic.Boy I =love Dominica..and would go back in a NY MINUTE!!...I'm not bad with snakes..,not thrilled either..did not see a one..we did the rain forest/waterefall hike,no creepy crawli bugs either..lot's of butterflies, hummingbirds, tons of gorgeous flowers and fruit trees..we keep a steady pace..it's a well worn path..=shrug..I'd go... make DH walk in front of you..:grin..and believe it or not the sheer beauty of the island is riveting!!..I'd say go.and just be aware but not nervous or expecting.I mean there is a whole clump of people tromping and making tons of movement and noise..they are not that wanting to see you anyways!!...remember..the old adage .".You're bigger than them and they are more afraid of you..and it's true!!."....:)...=hugs..Joanne
