Rather than ask what hotel we should stay in in Vancouver, lets talk about areas of the city to stay

Our cruise in June disembarks in the beautiful city of Vancouver, and we want to stay a few nights there exploring before coming home. What are the ideal areas of Vancouver to look at hotels in, which will put us near all the usual touristy stuff? We are interested in museums, parks, natural wonders, etc.

Is Gastown a good area to stay in? Other area suggestions?

No you would not want to stay in gastown - in fact there are almost no tourist hotels in that part of the downtown core - do you have a price range in mind or a certain chain - Robson, Georgia, Hastings W , Burrard, Howe, Hornby, Granville would be okay - The downtown core is quite compact - were you planning on renting a car or using transit - Your ship should arrive at Canada Place - the Pan Pacific and Fairmont Waterfront Hotel are right there but will be pricey.

Glo, Downtown is best. You can walk to many places. Most hotels offer tours. We walked the waterfront and took a water taxi to Grandville Island.Stanley Park offers horse drawn buggy rides.Grouse Mountain is a must do.

i found alot of great info on vancouver at www.bcpassport.com. they have a good map you can bring up to see how the layout of downtown is and what great things there are too do there. also hellobc.com is a good site for lots of things to do and deals on hotels. vancouver is a wonderful city and has many things to do. i cant wait to go to granville market again. and capilino supension bridge and grouse mountain are great places to spend the day. have a great time. in june i used priceline for the firest time and on my first bid got the vancouver marriot pinnacle for $50 for may, 2005. wow, what a fantastic hotel for the money. it is a 4 star and is one block from the waterfront and 3 blocks from canadian place. maybe you could get lucky also for you hotel stay. good luck and have a great time.

On priceline did you select 4 star or 3 star? I haven't booked my cruise but it's looking like I'll be in Vancouver May 2005 sometime. Thanks.

i choose 4 star and the price of $50 was the first bid i made. i was so shocked when i got a page in about 60 seconds that said'' congratulations, you have won the marriot pinnacle. all total with the taxes and their small fee it came too $61.77, still a fatastic deal. i looked last night at the marriot for that nigh and the rooms started at $299. give it a try. if you choose 4 star i dont think you can go wrong.

good luck. i actually think priceline is fun ( kind of a gamblers rush ) and you save tons of money.
