I have been using my RCCL visa card for every purchase I make!!! I am now ready to cash in enough points to get $650 off a cruise. Does anyone have experience with this? If so, please let me know. Thanks!

I dont know about the RCCL card, but I had a Carnival card. I think the terms are pretty close. When you go to turn in the points, you get a code to give the cruise line. You usually have to wait something like 5 to 10 days before you can give the code to the cruise line because they have to notify or something. I will warn you, cuz I learned this the hard way, make sure you are definetly going on that cruise and there is no chance of you cancelling (of course not counting death or other issues like that) because if you use the points then cancel, you cant get the credit back or the points to use on a different cruise. Or at least that is the problem I had.

Actually the RCCL credit card is slightly different than the carnival one. On the RCCL credit card all you have to do is call a number provided i think with the credit card...ill look into this and get back to you. And in about 8 or 9 weeks they will send you a certificate that you will have to send via mail to the company and the credit will be deducted off of your cruise. Its easier than it sounds i promise haha.

Thanks for the info so far. I really enjoy doing my finances this way and am pretty pleased about how much I "should" be able to get off our next cruise.

Hello GRIL232,

We just used our points on our Enchantment cruise in November.

Granduer Sailer is correct on the proceedure. You call and tell them you want to use your points. They will mail you the form/certificate, to fill out and mail back. They said it would take eight weeks for the form to get to me, but it was only about five weeks.

BTW, RCCL has the same policy that Samplecd2 described for Carnival. If you cash in your points on a cruise, they are NOT refundable, should you have to cancel that cruise.

Also, once you have them send the certificate to you, there is a time limit on it's use. I believe it is six months, (Unfortunately I don't remember whether that was supposed to mean you have only six months in which to submit the certificate, OR whether that meant you have six month in which to sail. But I think it was the former.)

Gayle helped me w/my question when I cashed in points for $200 on shipboard credit( Thanks Gayle!!!-sorry I never emailed you back, I appreciated all the help/direction that you gave me) as she said you call the phone number and tell them how many points you want to cash in(and for the amount of the cert)...they will mail you the certificate(s). Fill them out, and mail back. Do yourself a favor tho, make copies before you mail it off-the representative that I talked w/on the phone told me to do that. Since I was cashing them in for onboard credit, I took the copies of the mailed certs. with me just in case. I had checked my account on the TV while onboard, and it took from Sat. when we boarded until sometime late Monday morning for the $200 to appear. Boy was I happy to see the credit, more frozen thingys to drink by the pool. Gotta love the card....Happy Sailing...

Liz is absolutely right about making the copies. I should have remembered to tell you so, as we had occasion to need our copies. The original that I mailed in was lost somewhere in the process. I kept waiting to get some kind of notice (we were cashing in for money off the price of the cruise) and never got one. When I called they asked if I had a copy, and thank goodness I did. Mailed that in (after making another copy) and got the credit with no further problem.
