RCCL vs. Carnival

I have been on 8 cruises total with Royal Caribbean (5 times) being my favorite. I was on a small retired Carnival ship 20 years ago. I have not been on Carnival since. My sister and I are looking to take a cruise next summer. I am considering Carnival but am concerned I will be disappointed. With RCCL I have been on Majesty, Enchantment, and Mariner. Of those three, the Mariner is my favorite. Ok....those of you with experience on both Carnival and RCCL, should I give Carnival another try? If so, could you recommend a ship or two? Thanks!!!

Of my 18 cruises I have been on six Carnival and six Royal Caribbean. Never had a bad one in the lot. I can say that in my experience, the service on Royal Caribbean is consistanly better. Not to say I ever had bad service on Carnival, just that Royal Caribbean has the most consistantly good service.

Having said that, either one is awesome. My favorite itinerary is CCL Legend out of Tampa.

Again just my =twocents

For me It depends on the price, RCI's price can be almost double for some sailings in a balcony cabin. I Love RCI's Voyager & Freedom class ships but will not pay a large premium.

I've been on RCCL, Princess, Celebrity, Costa and Carnival. I recommend you any of these cruise lines and not CARNIVAL. If you love good things, take Celebrity. They are terrific. :thumb

Couldn't have been happier with the cruise we took on the Carnival Glory
out of Port Canaveral, Florida. Everything was absolutely wonderful.
I only see 1 Carnival (Carnival Destiny - 12/00) in your list of cruises. I would not judge any cruise line after only one cruise and feel it unfair to knock Carnival because of a possible bad experience 8 years ago. On the other hand you are entitled to your opinion.

I took all my cruises out of my sig when the administrators were asking people to shorten their signatures. If we all posted all our cruises in all our sigs there would be a LOT of scrolling going on :lol

Amen to that, PH!

We have done 6 Carnival cruises plus many RCCL ones. I would not hesitate to take a Carnival cruise. We especially like the Spirit class on Carnival and consider it a very easy ship to get around on. Their piano bar is so much fun to hang out at. They also have a club with a live band for dancing almost every night of the cruise.

Like PH said, except for the RCCL perks, I'd have no trouble doing Carnival all the time.

No, sometimes she's downright angry! Monday will be bad because she will just be returning from a cruise. She's loveable though, when you get to know her.

I understand how you felt about the smaller older Carnival ship you were on, because we went on the Holiday before it was refurbished and we were so unhappy and disappointed we said never again on Carnival. That said we are now Diamond on RCCL and we have taken many wonderful cruises on Carnival since, I just make sure I choose newer ships and read the cruise review boards, Carnival is usually cheaper and they seem to offer a better selection of ports, to us the last RCCL cruise we took last August was not up to par with our past experience and our last Carnival cruise this May exceeded our expectations. I think if you get lucky and have a good wait staff and a good room steward it really enhances the vacation experience. I think if you read up on the ships you are considering you will be happy with either, they are both great fun.

hi!

I have done both -- they are both great -- Rccl might be a bit better in my mind -- love the royal promenade area, but Carnival is still wonderful -- I was on the carnival imagination last thanksgiving -- went to their out island & turks --- that was GREAT!!! The boat was older, but had just been refurbished -- i loved it - small but great. If you can catch a cruise on carnival that includes the out island (i believe very few go there because it is owned & operated by Holland America) i would grab it! Bonus if you can get the out island & Turks!!

good luck

I just love cruising!! I've only been on RCCL so far. I enjoy the service. Make you feel like Royalty. I am a stay-at-home Mom with a Husband, 3 teenage boys and a male dog. I enjoy cruises so much because for 1 week someone else is taking care of ME. And a fine job they do. Our cabin attendant knew how much I enjoyed the towel animals, she made an extra effort every night to make me smile. As you can see it doesn' t take much to amuse me. I must say though, when I come off the ship, I am so let down for a couple of days until I snap out of it. I don't think I would mind any ship as long as they had good service and good food. Sounds like you can get that on both cruise lines. Take it from the experts on here who have numerous cruise experiences under their belt. They have enough experience that they have something to compare each cruise to.

About to try my first RCCL cruise--- just a 3day on the Monarch from Port Canav. in January. Been on many other cruises on many lines, but always preferred Celebrity!!! Just want a quick get away, so thought I would try it. Will I be OK??? LOL.. Anyway my main question--- anyone have recommendations for Orlando airport to Port Can. transfers??? Wanted to get a private ride, rather than a "seat on the bus!" Was looking at Ace Luxury Transportation of Orlando. Has any one used them before, and if so what did you think???
THANKS for your input!!!
