It has always been a sore spot with me that 18 year olds are old enough to serve their country but not old enough to buy a beer. When I was 18 the legal age in Michigan where I lived at the time was 18. It didn't change until after I was 21.

=welcome to Cruise @ddicts Pete and thank you for your service. :pride

I love the Western Caribbean the best. Great snorkeling in all destinations. Here are my suggestions.

Labadee: Do the wave runners, great fun. And the zip Line.

Ocho Rios: Rafting on the Martha Brae River. I prefer this to Dunns River Falls because the Falls are always so crowded.

Grand Cayman: Stingray City is a must-do.

Cozumel. Snorkeling definately. Last time in Cozumel we wanted to try something different so we did the SNUBA which was awesome.

I have never been on Mariner of the Seas but I have been on sisters Voyager, Navigator and on Explorer two times. Our favorite ships by far so I know you'll =funsign

Thanks Michael its my first cruise so i really have no idea what to expect. i do have a few questions if you don't mind answering them. is food and drinks included. i know there are a few dinning place you have to book in advance and pay extra for.

can you sight see on you own if you wanted and about the wave runners can you ride were you want or is there a guide to ruin your day.

what would you suggest packing it gives a guideline on formal, casual, sport casual ect. but i seriously don't think I'm gonna need a tie or prefer to wear one while I'm on vacation, but if it is required i understand. standards are to be upheld. The Infantry kinda drives that into our heads.

what are some fun things to do while aboard the ship.

anything else you can think of that would be useful to a first time cruiser would be golden

Thanks again Pete

Food is of course included so be prepared to gain some weight :)D The only food that isn't included is Johnny Rockets, $3.95 per person, and the specialty restaurants, Chops Grille and Portofino. These are about an extra $20-25 per person. But something tells me you won't go hungry with the buffets, dining room, and cafe... and of course don't forget about free room service!

Alcoholic beverages and sodas are not included. Fruit juices, iced tea, basic coffee, tea, milk, and tap water are free. One night during the cruise there will be a Captain's Welcome Aboard Cocktail Party with free champagne and wine.

You can sightsee on your own in any port. Be aware that in Labadee there isn't much to see because you are in a fenced off area on the Northern edge of Haiti reserved for Royal Caribbean guests only. The waverunners are awesome and highly recommend them! You will be taken on an hour and a half scenic tour of the north coast of Haiti and circle back around your cruise ship. If you have a water proof camera, don't forget to take it!

On your cruise there will be 2 formal nights. These nights most guys wear suits and ties or tuxes, but if you have a formal uniform you may even consider wearing that for the evening. If you do not want to participate in formal night you can eat at the buffet or any other dining venue that evening, however the main dining room will follow the dress code guidelines. The other nights of your cruise you can get away with a nice pair of pants and a polo shirt. Just remember that absolutely no shorts, sleeveless shirts, or bathing suits are allowed in the dining room at dinner.

Fun things?? Well there's 3 pools, hot tubs, sun bathing, a fully equipped gym and spa, rock climbing wall, basketball/volleyball court, mini golf, inline skating track, plenty of shopping, shows every evening, a casino, lounge bands, a nightclub, an ice skating rink, karaoke, trivia, and lots and lots of food!!!

Hope that helps!

And make sure that on thae evening they have scheduled QUEST that you do not fail to attend. Many guests do not realize that this is one of the funniest events on the ship...and what goes on there is top secret. So don't ask too many questions...just go and enjoy!!!

Buying drinks will be a problem because they have a code on your ID or seapass that let's them know you are under age. But at the free cocktail hour you should have no problem as the waiters walk around with tray fulls of drinks and love to have you take them off their hands. Have fun!!! :wave
