TD #7 LIKELY A TROPICAL STORM NOW- FRANCES WILL BE BIG NEWS MAKER NEXT WEEK

It looks as if TD #7 will be upgraded at 11am to tropical storm Gaston. The satellite images of the depression suggest that it has organized enough to be a named storm now. However, we shall wait until the 11am advisory from the NHC before jumping to any conclusions. The latest available information from the NHC forecasts the system to slowly head towards the South Carolina coast. This will bring very heavy rain and gusty winds to the Carolinas over the weekend. Beyond that- there should not be much impact from this system.

Frances is another story entirely. The NHC is forecasting the hurricane to reach a scary 140 mph as it moves towards the Bahamas. It looks as if the northeastern Caribbean Sea will escape the full effects of Frances- but large ocean swells will impact that area as early as today. Beyond 5 days, as we always say, it is too soon to know whether or not Frances will affect the East Coast. There is certainly a possibility of that- and we are all aware of this. My best advice now is to keep monitoring the latest information and make sure your hurricane plan is ready to implement should Frances directly affect the United States. I think that once we get to Monday, we'll have a much clearer picture of where the hurricane is ultimately headed.
